All time favorite Christmas carols...Hmm.

Calypso Noel, by Johnny Mathis
O Holy Night, by Jim Nabors (seriously!)
...and I'm just now istening to Mannheim Steamroller and liking it very much.
I love Gonzo, but was never too fond of Rizzo. :D

And since you're from Ireland I'm remended of John McDermott, wonder if he sings Christmas carols. I may look into that.

In reality...i HATE holiday songs..but...being obscure and strange as I am...I would say the only "Christmas song" I like would be Type-O Negative's Red Water (Christmas Mourning)...

Let's see... The Pogues are fun... And the Kinks' "Father Christmas;" The Waitresses, "Christmas Wrapping;" John Lennon, "War is Over;" Mannheim Steamroller; "Heat Miser;" "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch;" Bruce Springsteen, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town".... There are probably others....

I'm just happy because I have been good all year. :) Santa's Coming! :D I usually blow it between Halloween and Thanksgiving, just when Santa really starts keeping notes... But this year I was so good! :) I won't get coal this year, for sure! At least, I hope not... My brother should get it. I always get it, and I'm good.... :(

I have 2 CDs which contain remastered songs originally done on vinyl by Robert Shaw & Arthur Fiedler...these are songs I remember from my childhood, so mean Christmas to me. I also have a Nat King Cole Christmas CD...very mellow. I combine them with some Mannheim Steamroller when I'm in my "wrapping" frenzy, or decorating...gets me right in the mood.

On Christmas Eve, the church service ends with a candlelit rendition of Silent Night, with everyone walking outside to finish, then heading home. It always make me misty-eyed.

I must confess that I didn't enjoy Christmas songs very much during my teens; I felt they were an intrusion, and was happy when things got back to rock, and nothing but rock. My attitude didn't change until my mid 30s, when it became important to establish my own Christmas traditions for my daughter. She apparently dislikes Christmas music as much as I did! ;) So the cycle continues!! :)

Marcia-

Since my parents weren't much older than teens when they had me, you can see they apparently had your ideas, so Christmas has always been a rock 'n roll affair here.... Especially Bruce! My parents are the same age and grew up in the same town (Greetings from Freehold!), so we've had his music in our house well before he was "BRUCE." So that song, and John Lennon and the Kinks (that's my Dad's influence) were always big here and marked the start of the season.

Last year my brother made a cd mix of stuff he found all over--I think there are holiday comments from the Sopranos, stuff from the Simpsons, and assorted other loud things my Grandmother wasn't thrilled by.... Except he starts the CD off with my Grandma's favorite Christmas movie of all time.... National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.... I can't believe she didn't make me watch it Thanksgiving!

I haven´t started listenning to Xmas music, so I can´t really remember which ones I really like.... that only happens when I have listened to them all the month and the ones that don´t get on my nerves, become the favorite ones (as I realize then...). So, I am sure I will be telling you in about 20 days or so...! ;)

Last year when I was in Michigan for Xmas, there was a song on the radio that I really enjoyed. It was a very silly and repetitive song of a guy complainning about everything related to Xmas, gifts, trees and decorations, etc. I was told it was a popular song for the season, the type that everybody knows... do u know what I´m talking about? It was really funny and I laughed everytime they played it on the radio! I want to listen to it again without the travelling expenses! haha ;)
