Christmas Time at WDW

I usually go to WDW every autumn. This year I am thinking of taking a quick solo trip the second week of December.
I usually stay at the Beach Club, but I think I will stay at the Swan/Dolphin to save some money, but still be in the same area. Thoughts?
I have never been to WDW during that time of year. I am super excited to see the Osbourne lights. What else should I make time to see in the other parks?
I will only have 3 or 4 days. I will skip the stuff that is the same year round and focus on the holiday stuff. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Here is our normal list:

1) MK Christmas Party
2) Osbourne Lights
3) Epcot (Hopefully we will have Lights of Winter back)
4) Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Contemporary, and Grand Floridian for their special displays.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party is a MUST. Mk is amazing with the snow machines on main street and the light show on the castle.

Been twice at Xmas and love marketplace in DTD, they have carolers and christmas music playing, it does have a real holiday atmosphere

I would disagree that it's a must do. We went last December and there were tons of people that weren't supposed to be there just s__________g up the same shows and parades that we paid extra to see. The free cookies and hot chocolate were not worth the extra ticker either.

The decorations were nice but they could take a lesson from Universal on how to decorate for Christmas.

I agree that the xmas party is a must do. When I went in 2005 I had a blast. I loved the decorations, the music & all the chartacters dressed up in thier holiday best. LOVED it.

Christmas time in WDW is an amazing time of the year to visit. Here are a few of my must do's for the holidays.

  • Candlelight Processional
  • Illuminations W/ Holiday tag
  • Holidays around the World in Epcot
  • MVMCP (I really like the marching toy soldiers in the Christmas parade "as seen on TV". This is the only way to see the parade during the second week of Dec)
  • Osborne Dancing Spectacle of Lights
  • Visit all of the Deluxe resorts. The decorations and displays are simply amazing
  • Jingle Jungle Parade in AK

I went to DW over 25 times before I finally went during December. IT was last year, from the 18 - 24.

I don't plan on going again. I've never seen so many crowds.

The weather was great but two hour waits for Mission:Space, Test Track, etc.

No thank you.

It's nice to see all the holiday stuff, which I did as I spent most my time walking around looking,

That is the busiest time of the season. Lucily you were not there the week between Christmas and New Years.

Luckily this has nothing to do with the time the OP wants to visit which is a week earlier and one of the slowest times of the year. It is amazing how quickly crowds change at Disney.

Nothing beats Christmas at Disney, I don't care about the crowds or the long lines they are all worth the smiles on my families faces when they see all of the decorations and the lights. We have done it twice so far 2007 and 2009 and plan to do it again maybe as soon as 2010, also it beats the possibility of having to shovel 2 feet of snow Christmas morning.:xmas:

We have seen MVMCP for the last two years. This Dec. will not go to the party. It is overrated (my opinion) but Disney does do the holiday season beautifully. That is why we are going Dec. 5 again this year.:xmas::sohappy:

I haven't had that kind of trouble when I've gone there during that time. Test Track and Mission Space were both closer to 30-60 minutes. Though we usually get on both fairly easy doing single rider and Green.

The second week of December shouldn't be that bad, crowd-wise. We've been there before at that time and found it quite managable.

As for what to see, the MVMCP is fun, at least to do once. The countries around the WS are also nicely done up. The GF is wonderful to visit, between the band and the gingerbread house. All in all, all of the parks look lovely during the holiday season.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I don't think I will be able to see MVMCP. It just isn't in the budget this year. Fortunately since I am a DL local, I get to see the snow on Main St, Castle lights and fireworks show regularly. It will have to be enough for now! :)

I didn't even think of seeing the Deluxe resorts. Thanks for that great idea.
After working the budget, I think I will stay at a value resort (my first time). I will only be there to sleep and shower. I will spend the rest of my time at the parks.

I'm not too worried about crowds because I am not planning on riding the rides much. I am mostly there to enjoy the holiday decorations.

I also didn't realize that the WS would have decorations in the different countries. WS is my favorite part of WDW, so I am thrilled to hear that.

I heard about the Candlelight Processional before, but forgot about it. I'll put it on my must-do list.

Thanks!

WS also has a different Santa Claus figure for almost every country with a story about that country's Christmas. They're pretty interesting, but I haven't seen all of them. You can find their show times at the stand where they do their show.

My dad and I began going every December starting my senior year of high school, I'll now be going into my Junior year of college and we have plans to go Dec 15-20. We always tend to go around this time (since its the earliest I can go because of school) and we've never had a crowd problem. Actually, compared to July, I'd say the crowd was pretty lite plus the weather is wonderful. Also, I didn't even touch on all the Christmas events. There are extra shows, special parades, and holiday themed fireworks shows.

I would personally recommend Mickey's Christmas Party at MK. Since there is a limited amount of tickets sold per day its easier to get on popular rides. The only thing I'm not a big fan of is a lot of the restaurants close with normal park hours and aren't open for Mickey's, so your food options are limited.

I think everyone, if given the opportunity, should visit Disney around Christmas at least once. The entire resort is transformed and it really puts you in the Christmas spirit :)
