Christmas Schedule

I was just looking at the Disneyland Calendar to get an idea of the schedule for my trip the first week of December. For the last week of November it is showing the first Paint the Night at 5:45 most nights. Over at DCA they have the WoC Winter Dreams at 9:00 and Celebrate at 10:15. That week has longer hours for Thanksgiving. I wonder how it will be with shorter hours.

That sounds like a typo or something. Paint The Night at 5:45 when the park is open until Midnight?

Although at that time of year it's dark by 5:30, so I guess it could happen...

Yeah I thought it was odd too. It would make it easier to see Paint the Night and Fantasmic on the same night though.

Wow, I just realized how insanely stacked Disneyland's entertainment schedule is for Thanksgiving week;

Two Christmas Fantasy Parades - 1:00 & 3:15
Two Paint The Night Parades - 5:45 & 10:45
Two Fantasmic! shows - 9:00 & 10:45
Fireworks - 9:30

Plus 100 yards away at DCA there is a daily Pixar Play Parade at 5:45, two different World of Color shows each night, Mad T Party nightly, and multiple showings of !Viva Navidad!.

Every day they are doing five parades, four water shows, a bunch of huge seasonal entertainment offerings, and a massive fireworks show? That's insane. And definitely unprecedented for Disney theme parks, even the Tokyo property.

There must be a typo or something. Maybe someone hit "SEND" before they were supposed to and they'll fix it when the calendar guy comes in tomorrow morning?

Some nights will have TWO performances of Forever. Unprecedented.

Weird - I had a couple people internally tell me it was still on, but I do see the schedule has been changed. Weird.

Over at Micechat the editor's have this note up on their front page this evening...

Editor's Note - The Old Boom and Go – The Disneyland entertainment calendar is up online for Thanksgiving week showing the jam-packed schedule that features an early showing of Paint The Night at 5:45pm. What isn't online yet is TDA's still unapproved plan to add a second fireworks show each night, with a 6:30pm show in addition to the 9:30pm show. This is an experiment to try and get people to leave Disneyland earlier in the evening and help manage the insane crowds expected for Season of the Force. Theme parks use fireworks and night parades to get people to stay in the park longer, but now Disneyland is so overcrowded they are trying to get people to leave earlier! http://micechat.com/

If this is true, and it appears to be now with both @GiveMeTheMusic and Micechat talking about it, this has to be one of the weirdest things Disneyland has done with its entertainment schedule ever. I know Disneyland has had record crowds this year, after a decade of steadily rising attendance for both parks, but this is a really unusual tactic to take to help crowd control.

It might be a stroke of brilliance, or it might be dumb, but I'll have to see it in action next month to decide.

I think it's fantastic. Initially when I was told about this I thought they'd do Believe first and Forever second each night, but that gives crowds incentive to watch both since they'll be different. Hope this works out for them. I can't think of a single time the same fireworks show has been performed twice in one night.

So they're doing 2 fireworks shows because of the anticipated huge popularity of...the lame Star Wars overlay in Tomorrowland? Is that really the logic?

I can see the logic of how busy the parks have been for the 60th, and the usual holiday crowds, but I really don't see Season of the Force being a huge draw during that time. People who come during Thanksgiving are going to be there regardless of a meet & greet (with a capacity of dozens of guests per hour) and a Space Mountain overlay. I particularly don't see how the evening-specific crowds will be impacted by it

As crazy as the new entertainment schedule sounds, I don't question whether it's actually being considered. I just have to wonder how it could possibly be related to the Star Wars stuff. If people wanted to see a Star Wars nighttime spectacular, they should head to DCA where they can learn all about Walt's visionary dream that became Star Wars in World of Color

I think the Star Wars event is really just the cherry on top of a loaded sundae. The 60th has been insanely popular. Add the holiday season and now a promotion of the most highly anticipated movie in years and TDA must be pulling their hair out. They should be applauded for going to the extra expense when they didn’t have to, trying to make things at least a little more manageable.

Anything Star Wars right now is huge. The announcement of a new trailer sent social media into a frenzy this last weekend. How many non-football fans will be watching Monday Night Football tonight? Even if Season of the Force doesn’t amount to much I could see plenty of die hards flooding into the park. I imagine Space Mountain will be by far the longest wait with its overlay this holiday season.

Hey gang - I'm contemplating making a return trip to DLR to say goodbye to Fantasmic! and the RoA. How crazy are the days after New Years? I'm think maybe arriving on 1/06 and heading back after the 10th to bid adieu to my old friends.

I'm sure that weekend will be nuts with the END IS NIGH crowd; but, I just want to mentally prepare myself.

The first week of January is usually one of the slower times. My December trip is to say goodbye too and i considered early January but ultimately opted for December because I still have a few vacation days to use this year.

Why not just have one firework show at 6:30 every night? This would give crowds an even better reason to go home earlier rather than having them want to see the firework show again. PTN 5:45, Fantasmic 6, & DL Forever at 6:30.

I'm hoping DL thinks about it and does do Believe first. That way they wouldn't have to wait a year for Believe. What a holiday season this will be!!!! This is what DL should of done for the 60th summer, except for the second pyro show. Might we see more F! this season since it's ending for who knows how long on Jan 10, 2016?
