Christmas Day Crowds

Hi everyone, I haven't been on in forever so I am totally out of the loop with all this new stuff on here! Quick Question - what are crowds like on Christmas day? My family has a house in Sarasota and we were thinking about driving over for the day to go to MK. The only day that works for us is Christmas day. How are crowds usually? We plan on leaving early to be there by 8:30ish and hoping to mainly get new FL done. We've been so many times before we dont really need to see anything else. Are the mornings decent and then fill up by the afternoon? Or is it crazy all day? Thanks! :)

I was there Christmas Day 2010. We got there at rope drop and we were able to get on about 8 - 10 attractions before lunch. The crowds were not that big in the morning. We were greatly surprised as we expected huge crowds. Obviously, the crowds started to grow around noon.

It's one of the only days (if not the only day) of the year, where having to stop allowing crowds in happens regularly. I can't remember what it's called when they do that, they redirect you to a different park.

I recommend getting there early and trying not to leave if you can help it. I mean, obviously scope the crowds yourself when you get there, but I've heard it's one of the worst days of the year to be at MK

There are a few issues with your plan.

Dec 25th is on of the most crowded days of the whole year. It also has an EMH morning at the MK, so the park will open to hotel guests at 7 am increasing crowds for you.

If you only want to see 2 or 3 things and you are willing to wait in very long lines, you should be fine.

We have been there several on Christmas Day. We get there for Rope Drop and do what we want until 11am. Crowds until then are really not bad. After noon forget it!. We were there last year and had no problems until noon. You should easily be able to see the new Fantasy Land if you get ther for Rope Drop.

Thanks for the tips everyone!! I did see they are doing EMH which could be a problem. We dont HAVE to go...it was because we are near it (2 hours mind you but considering we live in pa...2 hours is well worth the drive haha) we just usually have to go for a day.

We've been to MK 3 times on Christmas Day, and my advice is be there at rope drop. You'll be able to do quite a bit before about 11am or so. We've always left about that time, but returned in the evening about 7pm or so and had a nice evening. The evening though is more about taking in the atmosphere, seeing the parade, fireworks, etc., and prehaps getting to do Carousel of Progress, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor and some 'minor' attractions.

If you can't be at the turnstyles before 9 a.m., I wouldn't bother. This year is our 6th consecutive Christmas in WDW. We always go to Epcot on Christmas Day. Without fail, by 9:30-10 a.m., MK is already in phased closure and guests are diverted to other parks. MK opens at 7 a.m. to resort guests and 8 a.m. to the public. Expect gridlock around 10 a.m.

Christmas - NYE usually has Magic Kingdom closed to capacity by 10am - 11am, though christmas day may be fairly managable until 11am when crowds all close in after christmas morning.
