Pre-Trip Christmas 2022 to New Year's 2023 Mousekaganza

"All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney

Pretty sure this is Walt taking to those of us who are crazy enough to plan a trip during the week between Christmas and New Year's... but I am here for it!

A Little Background

Why: In June of 2019 we began the fun of planning what would be a massive spring break trip in April of 2020 (need I say more). Now that trip did end up getting rescheduled and we had a great trip at the end of September of that same year but because of well, you know, it was mainly a trip of rides, rides and more rides. We still had a magical time! However, we vowed to make that up to our kids with a blow out of a Disney Trip and since the bucket list item for me is to go to Disney during the Christmas Season, we have pulled the trigger and are all booked.

When: December 26 - January 2 (yep, we are are doing it)
Where: Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort (We love the Caribbean, we love Disney, so we can't go wrong here).
Who: Myself (The Reverend), The Pastor's Wife, Son: 11, Daughter: 8

What (and more why): The big trip. You know, the one where you hope your kids will look at you when they are 30 and say, remember that time we did Disney at Christmas? More importantly: We got to ride every ride more than once during our 2020 trip and it was fantastic. However, we now want the Disney experience. The Characters, the ambiance, the snacking, the shows, everything that was missing in 2020 (of which we were okay with, and knew what we were getting when we decided not to cancel). We also want to be able to take advantage of my daughter not quite being 10 yet and squeeze one more trip before she hits that "Disney Adult" age. Finally, my son is infatuated with Disney Imagineering right now. So much so he is set on getting his degree in Architectural Engineering and working for Disney as an Imagineer. Will that actually happen, I hope so, but knowing kids change their mind often, I want to incapsulate that magic in what I have been told is the best Disney experience out there, the holidays.

*Side Why: My wife and I actually snuck to Disney in 2021(those are the attached pics) with some friends for an adults only weekend to experience the fullness of Epcot Food and Wine, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood. We kind of need to make that one up to the kids. (If you have never done an adults only trip to Disney, especially with friends, I cannot recommend this enough. We had the best time, laughed hard and got so much done.

Yes, we know we are a bit crazy and yes we are managing expectations. This trip is not about "how much can we do" but is all about how much we can enjoy. All that to say, finding trip reports or tips this specific week has proved to be a time hog of searching the boards, so I figured I would try my hand at a Pre-Trip report. Which comes to remind me... I did not finish my 2020 trip report....

Thanks for joining along, I cannot promise I will update all the time, but I will do my best! If you have any Christmas week tips, feel free to share below.

Do not let the Disney at Christmas naysayers get to you. It is a wonderful time of year to be in Disney World and you seem to have realistic expectations and the purest reasons for going. I am excited for you!
(And may join you😉 although I am trying to talk the fam into someplace warmer.)

Well, I cannot believe I posted this in February and here it is the end of August. This means only 122 shopping days left for Christmas and 123 for this trip. We have since laid out all of our park plans.

We have added Park Hopper and added Genie+ before they did away with the pre-purchasing capabilities.

12/26: Travel Day - Disney Spring Fun (Dinner: Raglan Road)
12/27: Hollywood Studios/ Epcot (Lunch: Brown Derby/ Dinner: Sabastian's at CBR)
12/28: Epcot/ Magic Kingdom (Lunch: Food Booths/ Dinner: Royal Table) - A trip to BBB for the little Princess
12/29: Magic Kingdom/ Epcot (Dinner: Via Napoli)
12/30: Animal Kingdom/ Hollywood Studios (Lunch: Yak & Yeti/ Dinner: Taphouse/ other bites)
12/31: Epcot (Late Breakfast: Ohana/ Dinner: Food Booths/ other bites)
1/1: Magic Kingdom (Bruch: Art Smith's Homecomin/ Dinner Steakhouse 71)
1/2: Travel Day - Breakfast at Chef Mickey's

*We also plan to add in the Behind the Seeds tour as my son has decided to show interest in conservation. He is a little confused on what he can do with such a focus, so we want him to see that companies like Disney (and others) do have conservation focuses.

Now we just waiting for booking day. Thankful I have a great buddy that is my TA and will be helping me get the above lined up for booking.

Well after navigating that is the $10 website that Disney seems to have when it comes to booking reservations, we scored everything but two! I have faith that we will snag The Hollywood Brown Derby (if not, we can do the QS option) and Sebastian's, which I had no clue is so highly sought after.

Here are our updates:

12/26 - Raglan Road Dinner
12/27- Pending Lunch: Brown Derby. Dinner: Boathouse - Disney Springs
12/28 - Lunch at Festival of the Holidays. Dinner: Royal Table (Bibbidi Boddibi Before dinner)
12/29 - Lunch: Liberty Tree Tavern. Dinner: Snacks around Hollywood Studios (Looking at you Baseline)
12/30 - Lunch: Yak and Yeti QS. Dinner: Via Napoli or Sebastian's
12/31 - Brunch: Ohaha. Dinner: Via Napoli or Sebastian's (behind the seeds tour)
1/1 - Brunch: Kona Cafe. Dinner: Chef Art Smith's (the southern in us is hoping for some hoppin John and Collards at least!)
1/2 - Brunch:- Chef Mickey's

Hard to believe we are this close with dining booked. I ended up ditching the computer and doing some booking on my app. My TA had my wife's login and was a big help as well in snagging some of the above. Helps when they are your best friend!

Now here is to snagging the last two!

We are officially under 30 days! Hard to believe how far it seemed when we booked, how fast that time has passed, and how close we are to going. With Thanksgiving behind us, a calendar full of Holiday Cheer and numerous events, we will blink, and it will be go time!

Not sure if I mentioned this or not, but this is a big part of our Kids' Christmas this year. That's right, they will find out Christmas morning that we leave in just under 24 hours for a magical week at Disney. As we were watching the Magical Christmas Celebration last night, I kept saying how it was a dream of mine to go during the Holidays. My ever pessimistic 12-year-old son (hello tweener) just laughed and said, but it is way too expensive. Oh man, does he have one coming his way! Also, we got grandfathered into the Genie+ when we booked and paid ahead of time. I already feel like I got a Disney deal!

We were able to get all the dining reservations we wanted, and when we wanted them. and stayed true to the above with 12/30 being Sebastian's and 12/31 being Via Napoli.

One of my favorite things we are doing this year for Christmas is we have wrapped the things eveyone needs for the trip. T-Shirts, hoodie/ sweatshirts, magicbands (well for the kids, snagged them each a Magicband+), new shoes, gift cards for spending money, etc. We will see who figures out the theme first and that it actually hints to the "big present!"

Now to manage our excitement and not give it away. I mean, surely, we can hold this secret for 27 more days?
