Child's 1st Haircut @ WDW

My oldest DD6 has NEVER had a haircut, with hair down to right above the back of her knees:eek:! Her pet name to strangers is, "Rapunzel." (Just last night, as my DD's were testing out their newly-put-together bunk beds, DD3 calls up to DD6, "(Ra)Punzel, let down your hair!") Recently, she's been asking to get it cut, because she's "tired of sitting on it" (even though it's pulled up 3/4's of the time). I am not an ogre of a mom, so if she wants to get it cut, she can, I mean, a hairdresser can....but, I was wondering if there is any place on-property where she could get her very first haircut?

Granted, our trip is 73 days out (so I will just have to make sure her hair is ALWAYS pulled up or braided). As much as my family, & DD6 especially, loves WDW, I would love for her to wait until we get down there!

Suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!

Get there early. As soon as the front gates open, go straight to the barber shop. We had our sons first haircut there and its something he even remembers and talks about today. They will save a hair sample for you and you can purchase a first haircut set of mickey ears.

Thanks for the tip of heading over to the Barbershop FIRST thing! I didn't realize that they didn't take appointments like the other spas around WDW property. I looked the shop up on YouTube and read reviews, and I have to tell you, I'm a bit excited!! Since DD6 doesn't want to cut the majority of her hair, which would've been donated to Locks-of-Love (or something of the like), I really like the idea of having her very first haircut in MK!!

Do you remember what time you got to the shop and how long you had to wait? We plan on hitting up MK in the AM on two occasions, with one of them being an 8:05 a.m. ressie at CP (but I was hoping to hit up the rides first thing).

The Harmony Barber shop now takes reservations making the need to rush unnecessary and at times, pointless. You can make reservations by calling the regular dining reservation line at 407-WDW-DINE.

We had out youngest daughter's first hair cut and it was a great experience.

Thanks for the heads up on this!! I just got off the phone and secured 3 ressies (2 for my DD's & 1 for their cousin who is coming along), and at times that I preferred! I am so excited for this experience for my kids, but I will contain my excitement until the do's are done (out of fear that 1 or all 3 will reject the idea).

Thanks again!

I love getting my haircut at the Magic Kingdom. I've been there for several first cuts and they always do a great job. I'm sure your DD's cut would be different, but you can check my pic to see how nice a job they do.

We're contemplating the same thing. DD6 tells us that "Rapunzel is the look that I'm going for," but she really could use a cut. We're doing BBB on our first MK day, but thinking about scheduling the barber shop on the 2nd. I'm thinking WDW might be the only place I get get her to agree to a 1st cut.

My DD6 is kind of the same way: she doesn't want to cut all of her hair, just enough so when she sits down (when her hair is down), she doesn't sit on it.

Just to forewarn you about BBB: the Fairy Godmothers use A LOT of hair products, because they do not want one tiny hair out of place. So, if you're going to do the Harmony Barbershop the very next day, your DD will have to undo the hairdo & wash it well...very well;). Like all experiences where hair, nails, &/or face are involved, children must have clean hair, nails, & face, and free of any skin conditions for 30 days prior to appointment.

AND, when I was making the HBS ressie, the lady told me that if any of the kids were getting a haircut, I'd have to provide my own water spritzer bottle, because they are a "dry" shop & do "dry" cuts. (I will also be throwing in my own comb, brush and maybe a detangler spray.) Also, a credit card is required to hold the ressie, and the same card would be charged if you're a "no show" or cancel with less than 24 hrs. until the appointment.

Have fun with your princess & take loads of pictures!!

I'd suggest getting the haircut first before BBB. That way everything is nice and tidy and you can leave in the princess do for a few days. I've been in the barber shop twice when little girls were getting cut for a day at BBB and I have a friend that did his DD's that way and it worked well.

So, you're "saying" that even with a reservation, I could face a long wait time if I don't go first thing in the morning? I might have to call back and get the earliest ressie...

With a reservation you should be fine. It's like a dining reservation you'll jump in line ahead of all the walk-in's

No, I think she meant if you don't have a reservation. There was a time that the barber shop didn't take reservations, so there was a mad dash to get there first thing in the morning.

I had a 9:30 appt and waited about 25min to get in last April. So the reservations are like the dining reservations you may still wait a bit but you do jump ahead of all the other walkup buisness.
