Chicago O'Hare

We are flying United and need to connect through O'Hare. How big is it? If the flight is on time, is an 1.5 hours enough time between flights? Will we have time to grab food, etc?

Remember going through O'Hare a while ago and it is big, not as bad as Atlanta where sometimes you have to take the train to get to your other gate. If you are connecting to another United flight, there is a possibility it will be in the same area as you land. If not, as long as the flight lands on time you should have time to grab something to eat.

O'Hare is HUGE!!!! However, if you are flying on the same connecting airline you should be fine. Be careful of connecting to another airline - the terminals are huge and long. You may have time to get food but check the moniters as soon as you get off the plane to see where your next gate is at.

Thanks. We usually connect through Minneapolis on NWA, but we got a better deal this year with United (also our connecting airline) and neither of us has been through O'Hare before.

Almost all of United's flights go through Terminal 1 at O'Hare. I'm not sure if flights from Canada go through the International Terminal at O'Hare (Terminal 5) or not. Terminals 1-3 all interconnect, and you can walk from one to the other. However, Terminal 5 is in a different building, and you would need to take the Airport Transit to go from 5 to the others (there is no Terminal 4 at this time).

Even if you end up having to switch terminals, 90 minutes is plenty of time to make the next flight.

Here's a picture from inside the Airport Transit:

O'Hare is bigger then MSP. Had to run through there once to get connecting flight.

We go through US Customs here in Winnipeg before boarding to Chicago. Would that still make us international?

No. I checked the flights today and yesterday out of Winnipeg, and the direct flights into O'Hare went to a domestic gate (Terminal 2, actually). The flights to MCO from O'Hare all went out of Terminal 1. Depending on how lucky you get with gates, you could be in for a 10 minute walk or a 30 minute walk to go from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much! (Why didn't I think of that???)

With the map that disney4life2008 linked, I think we'll be ok (my concern was with the kids).

One more question, if you don't mind, since I didn't see it on the map. I am assuming since we have already gone through US Customs and security in Winnipeg, we won't have to stop for security checks once landing in O'Hare since we'll be going terminal to terminal (or staying within the same terminal?)

We live in Chicago and O'hare is HUGE. Our gate always end up being at the end of the terminal so if you show up late or your flight is delayed (and you need to make a connection) you may need to haul butt!

You should be fine, thogh, if it's the same airline but it's definitely a large, busy airport. Maybe print out a map of it ahead of time so you know where to go.

We usually fly in/out of Milwaukee, WI because O'hare is so busy and stressful!

Travel Time

As everyone has said, O'Hare is good sized. From your signature, it looks like your traveling between the major holidays, so that is a plus. Depending on weather delays, 1.5 hours should be plenty of time to get your next flight.

your flight

My suggestion is to find your gate and then grab something to eat nearby. I flew out of Chicago years ago and they had bumped our flight up to allow another flight to land. If we had eaten and then looked for our flight, we may have missed it.

O'Hare is HUGE. I, like justducky78, will usually fly out of Milwaukee if at all possible. A much easier trip.

My suggestion is to know where you are going ahead of time and make your way over to Terminal 1 immediately and then worry about getting food once you have found your gate and know for a fact that you have the extra time.

If you want a real treat for the flight from Chicago to Orlando, make a stop at the Garret Popcorn shop located in Concourse B of Terminal 1. It is the best popcorn ever. Yeah, I know..."It's just popcorn", but it really isn't. There may be a line, but it is worth the wait. The Cheese and Caramel is the best. I prefer them separately, but they have a Chicago Mix which mixes both of them. It is a little expensive, but really worth it.

I make the trip from the Northwest Suburbs to Chicago, just to get Garrett's.

Have a magical trip.

Since I live 2 mins from O'Hare and frequently use United to Orlando you shouldn't have too much of a problem..There is a few food places like Chili's Express and Mcdonalds in the terminal.
