Dose Anyone Remember When Chevy Chase Was The Star In The Sounds Dangerous Studio At Mgm. It Was So Much Better Then What It Is Now. You Could Get More Involved.

Dose Anyone Agree That The Show Is Poor Now?

Chevy Chase starred with Martin Short in The Monster Sound Show, the original audio show at Disney-MGM. Yes, it was FAR more enjoyable (and funny)

Who is Drew Carey anyhow?? Disney have used a domestic audiences TV knowledge too much - same happened with Ellen in 1996.

Although I am a fan of Drew Carrey, I would have to say the show was much more fun the old way...it's always more fun when the audience gets involved!!!

I remember that show well. I always enjoyed that show. It's much better than the one now with Drew Carey. I think it would be great if they added a "Whose line is it anyway?" show, either in its place, or where SuperStar TV used to be (another show I used to love). I watch the show all the time, and I think it's the most hilarious thing... I'd love to see live improv at MGM!

Yes, the original "Monster Sound Show" with Chevy Chase was great, especially when the hosts would purposely que the guests, making the sound effects, in the wrong place. Reminds me of when "Who's Line" picks audience members to do the sound effects for Ryan and Collin. The pre-show featured David Letterman talking to one of the Foley artists for Disney (his name escapes me right now.)

Someone also mentioned Ellen in UoE. Now that her talk show is really popular, I've noticed lines at UoE again. I saw it twice recently and both shows were full. Speaking of UoE, how long ago did one of the traveling theatre sections go down? The first time I saw it (two weeks ago) I was in the theatre that had all six sections, but the second time I saw it, the front, middle theatre car was gone, leaving only five. BAD SHOW.

Hi, Steve

Yes, UoE can run 5 cars in one (or both) shows. This is called 5 pack formation, as opposed to the normal 6 pack. This happens when one of the vehicles is down for repair or maintainence, and the formation is re arranged to the pattern you saw. Originally, there were 13 travelling theatre cars made for UoE - 2 show sets and a spare - but I believe the 13th has been canabalised for parts over the years (typical) so today if one goes down you have a 5 pack.

You may have noticed loud cracking noises and escaping wind (really) coming from the turntables - this is because the load has become unbalanced with 5 cars. Running the show like this permenantley could damage the turntables, so a quick fix is usually done. For more how-UoE-works look at this great site.

The David Letterman preshow was pretty funny too.
If you disagree, security gaurds dressed in mouse suits will come and beat you senseless.

Back when the Tram Tour loaded up next to animation, there used to be some interesting pre-show video on the monitors also. I remember thinking that Disney had done a great job lining up celebs to intro the attractions at Disney-MGM. Of course the best intro of all was Robin Williams in the Neverland segment for Animation. Ahhhhhh....the good ole days.

Its bringing a tear to my eye.. sniff..

Rememver the Mickey Mouse and Michael Eisner video? Pure tongue in cheek (as it used to be) - Mickey (takes up TWDC logo position); "Look! I can even be a corporate Identity!"

Yes, yes. I loved that! I do miss Chevy and Martin. To me, that was such a challenge to the audience particpants to get the sound matched with the timing of it. I loved it when they played it back and it even looked worse watching it all together, but it was great comedy via the audience. :)

I loved the Monster Sound Show! That was a slightly different MGM then. Someone already mentioned the cue monitors for the backlot tour, which I remember vividly. There were quite a lot of famous actors telling you about various movie facts, behind the scenes info, etc. I remember Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Paul (P** Wee) Rubens, Carol Burnett, Tom Selleck....others that I can't remember anymore.

I wish they still did that, because it made the park seem more in-tune and 'alive'. I'm not sure how else to put it. Maybe they don't do it anymore because of the cost of getting the actors to 'perform'?
