I have multiple questions

1. How is the food at dinner? I don't expect much but I'm hoping it is at least decent

2. How much does it cost for dinner for an adult? I'm guessing $40 per person in mid april??

3. If you are there during wishes can you see fireworks or hear the music?

4. Will any cast members be able to take our picture with characters with my camera?

5. What is for dessert?

6. If you have been recently, would you go again?

1. There is a lot of food, pretty good variety. some type of carved beef option, chicken option, salmon, pasta, veggies, mashed tators, etc. Mickey shaped ravioli too!
2 Yes, 40 bucks will cover it
3. You can go out to the observation deck close by to view Wishes
4. Yup, they are happy to take those pics for you
5. Dessert is better than dinner, a bunch of nice choices. Along with make your own sundaes!
6. We went 2 years ago and I don't think we will do it again for a little while. We've learned that we are not huge fans of the lunch/dinner buffets but love them for breakfast. Chef Mickey's is always on our breakfast lineup. Those are just my feelings on it. I know others are happier at those buffets. You can't beat those character experiences!

  1. The dinner is pretty good, not fantastic but good and lots of choices. The earlier the ADR the better the food.
  2. $40 is about average.
  3. You can view from the deck, but you can't see from inside the restaurant.
  4. Absolutely they will be happy to take pics
  5. I really don't enjoy the dessert, lots of "mini desserts" none of which I felt were that great.
  6. We hit Chef Mickeys every year, we love it. This year we got a 5pm ADR (first of dinner seatings), and we arrived 15 min early. We felt that it was the best experience of any other year getting there at 5pm. Not crowded yet, warm fresh food, and more time with characters because we were one of the first to be seated. The restaurant was not full until we were almost done.

I am sorry but my answers are a bit different from those above...

1. Pretty good variety of food at dinner, usually 2 meats at the carving station, salad bar and 1 or 2 soups available as well as a few veggies and other pasta fish options.

2. According to Allears.net $40 is not enough for even the cheapest day/season. You can refer to this website for further menu/pricing info http://allears.net/menu/menu_cmk.htm

3. The observation deck is at the other end of the Contemporary if my memory is correct but if you have a window table in the Cove area as they call it, you can see a bit..

4. Sometimes the waiter was nearby but not often as they have 4-5 tables to serve and character handlers were not always near and we had to refer to family or another table at many times for photos with everyone

5. They have a good selection of soft serve ice cream and toppings, fruit and mini sized desserts on the dessert island

6. I would go every few years for the experience not for the food

From a food perspective, we prefer breakfast to dinner. Dinner was pretty bad when we tried it. The mashed potatoes were the only thing we liked. I still might try it again since I hear better reviews from the earliest seating times. According to Allears, prices are now also above $40 pp. They are listing $41.53-$46.85 as of Feb 2013...plus you've got tip on top of that. As for the observation deck, you will have to leave the restaurant and go over to the deck on the other side of the 4th floor to catch Wishes, but they do pipe in the music. I know some people also go up a few levels and watch from the fire exit areas so you're above the monorail.

I have multiple questions

1. How is the food at dinner? I don't expect much but I'm hoping it is at least decent

I thought it was the worst dinner I ever had on WDW property.... for the $$ at dinner, it was pretty awful. Tasteless, boring and Chef Boyardee quality. I did go later in the evening and the choices had dwindled, but wasn't impressed with anything they had there.

4. Will any cast members be able to take our picture with characters with my camera?

I have found that there isn't always a cast member available, but I have never had a nearby table refuse to help...and often you can repay the favor.

5. What is for dessert?

Cookies, brownies, cup cakes, ice cream.... this was actually the best part of the experience.

6. If you have been recently, would you go again?

I would do the breakfast, but dinner will be a no for this lifetime and the next one.[/quote]

I would compare the food to Golden Corral or something similar. Ok, but not great.
2. How much does it cost for dinner for an adult? I'm guessing $40 per person in mid april??
It's 40ish, but I can't recall since we were there on the dining plan last September.
3. If you are there during wishes can you see fireworks or hear the music?
Not sure since we had ressies at 5:05p.m.
4. Will any cast members be able to take our picture with characters with my camera?
Don't know, we just took turns taking pictures with the characters. The people at the table next to us asked us to take a couple of pictures of them.
5. What is for dessert?
Sundae bar & a few desserts to pick from. They could have had better choices!
6. If you have been recently, would you go again?
The only reason I would go back is for the atmosphere & because We have a DD4 yrs old & DGS4 mo. old.

This ^^^^ @HouCuseChickie experiences mirror mine. We try to visit Chef Mickey's for breakfast every visit (seriously.... I need my Pluto fix!!!!) Again, I LOVE the mashed potatoes here as well as the various dessert options. Again @HouCuseChickie is correct regarding the best spot for Wishes. As far as Fab Five character interaction, in our experiences, Chef Mickey's is the BEST (even for adults) Dinner isnt as good as breakfast, however, you won't leave hungry. Best of luck!

My stock answer for Chef Mickey is this. If you have not been there and you really want to eat with Mickey and the gang, than its worth a try. Overall its become to much of a milk it for what its worth thing for me. The cost no longer justifies the quality of the experience in my eyes so we have no plans to go back anytime soon. Chef Mickey used to be our yearly ritual meal but sadly no more.

My opinion - skip dinner, go for breakfast before MK opens. Breakfast is slightly cheaper and the food is better. Get the same quality time with the characters and saves time by not having to do the meet n greets in the parks. The kids are better rested and happier in the morning.

Be prepared for loud napkin twirling crazyness. It is a high energy dining experience so if you want a quiet dinner then go somewhere else. Chef Mickey's is just too over the top for me and the food is mediocre.

I agree with everyone's comments above so I won't repeat them. I will however add that at no character meal is there really a gaurantee there will be someone to take pictures for you. Usually there is a "handler" but they don't walk with each character individually and kind of float covering all of them if needed. They stop at your table, sign your autograph book and pose for a picture or two and then move on. It's fairly quick because, especially at Chef Mickey's, they have a lot of tables to visit and typically get pulled away to do little "shows" or a parade around the seating area etc. Our last visit to Chef Mickey's we almost didn't see Mickey for that reason (and we ate really slowly to try to be sure to see all of them).
