Does anyone know the dates of the cheerleading and dance competitions at disney for 2012? We stayed at all-star sports in 2010 and the pool and dining hall were packed. We will be staying at one of the resorts from 4/8/12 to 4/22/12 and wonder if the all stars are a good choice. If it is going to be filled with school teams we might stay at POR. Any help would be greatly appreciated

It was last week. My niece was there (all Star Sports) last week and said the same thing. she said she was going to write Disney. I don't know if that will do any good.

While I get and understand what everyone talking is about, I really don't think complaining to Disney will do much. These kids and groups bring in a lot of money to Disney (and usually during the times that were known as "slow times"). While I try to avoid the times when any cheerleaders or dancers will be there, I realize that Disney is profitting from their nuisance. They pay a lot of money to attend these events and often are in the parks less while filling resort space. Disney and Varsity also make a ton of money from having the competitions on ESPN. I don't think they will end anytime soon.

I wouldnt waste my time complaining to Disney about them. I just plan my visits for times when cheerleaders, and the equally obnoxious Brazilian tour groups are not there.

We honeymooned from 4/22-4/28 at Port Orleans Riverside, Magnolia section. It was AMAZING, lovely, peaceful & we were glad we spent the extra on a moderate resort- Until (cue horror movie screams, thunder crashing) The attack of the Unsupervised Brats from He!!. The Cheerleaders AND the kids from a band competition were staying (no doubt at a great discounted rate) at the Riverside & making a nuisance of themselves. The Cheerleaders were (to put it mildly) obnoxious (blowing smoke at us as we passed over the bridge away from Ol' Man Island- and swearing at us) and crowded in packs over anything we tried to get near in the resorts and the parks (and cut in line, sotle from the gift shops, etc).
When I asked a manager why they were staying at such a nice$$ resort, she said that the All Stars were booked up- and that "POR is a CONVENTION resort"....Huh? Plus she said that a Cheerio cursed and told her that "heads will roll if anything happens to my luggage", plus she had other 'charming" run ins with them. The resort eve shut off the fountains behind our resort just as they arrived- probably prior bad experiences.

Other band or cheer kids were making loads of noise at 11:30 at night in the "quiet pool" between mansions. The only chaperones I saw (at about 3 pm) were 6 Moms or teachers that were too busy sunning and drinking beer at the quiet pool to be bothered with the kids. We tried gritting our teeth & making the best of it, but were sworn at by some rowdy teens- for taking a picture of a grazing bunny on the lawn "B;tch be taking pictures of us".

Can anyone else think of a way to get it through to management's heads that we won't continue to pay big$$ for this type of abuse to happen? :mad:I am seriously thinking of trying to start a petition asking that they be confined to a special section of the (lower price or remote) resorts when they invade.

Actually, if by chance you noticed the name of their school (maybe on a shirt or by some other means) it would probably be best if you reported these activities and behaviors directly to their school. It is not a pretty sight when a school administrator dresses down a group of his/her students who have represented their school in negative way. We also stayed at POR (Oak Manor) 4/23-4/28 and noticed some groups, but we didn't have any problems. None of these group members were ever on any of the buses that we took to or from the parks. Based on your experiences, I suppose we were fortunate. I only saw one group in the food court while we were there, but they were all behaved.

cheers for avoiding cheerleaders

How do we find out where and when these monsters will be? I'd love to go back to POR for our 1st anniversary- but we won't go anywhere near WDW when the bratzillas invade.

I understand this- but why let them ruin POR at a discounted rate? And as far as that goes, how much $ are they losing from people who avoid going to WDW when they are hosting hordes of brats?

Many schools have trips around this time of the year, either for tournaments or end-of-year getaways. The larger numbers for cheer and sports occur around the first week of December, when the Pop Warner competition in at Wide World of Sports (or whatever they call it now). But those groups usually stay at the All Star resorts.

the Brazilian tour groups are usually in January and sometime during the summer, although I don't know the exact months. But I believe it corresponds with school breaks in that country.....

I stayed at the same resort as many of the cheerleaders (:D) and I only saw a group of them once at Epcot. They were very nice and one even pin traded with me!
