Checking In

Question: DBF and I want to check in to our resort in the AM of our arrival date (9/30) so we could go hit the parks early and make the most of our trip. MDE says check in does not start until 3 pm! Does this mean we cannot get our key to the world cards until after 3pm?! Or is there a way we could "check in" in the AM and just not put our things in our room until later? (I'm fine with leaving them in the car at the resort. I'm not bringing anything super expensive.)

Checking in early is possible:

All resorts offer an early check-in time of 6:00 am, at which time you can go to the Front Desk and check-in. You will be able to provide your information and even receive your room key, tickets and charging privileges, but don't expect your room to be ready though until the official check-in time. Official check-in times are 1:00 pm at the Fort Wilderness campsites, 4:00 pm at All-Star and Disney Vacation Club Resorts, and 3:00 pm at all other resorts. Your room should be ready by this official check-in time.

You can leave your luggage at the bell stand and bell services will deliver it to your room later. You are then free to go explore the parks or the rest of WDW. Use the Mobile Room Ready Notification or ask the Front Desk for a phone number to call. Once your room is ready, the Cast Member will give you your room number and you can then use your room key to enter the room. Ask to have your bags brought to your room at this time.

That's the beauty of the Disney resorts you can check-in and if the room isn't ready, leave your stuff with bell services and go hit the parks! Usually you can call later and get your room number too so you don't have to go back to the front desk.

Check-in is scheduled for 3:00 so that they have time to get all the rooms ready. In all my trips to WDW, only once was the room not ready by the promised 3:00 time...and they agreed to give me a late check-out on my last day to make up for it, so that worked out well. Every other time, the room was ready by (or before) 3:00.

You can check-in before 3:00, though. The room may or may not be ready. If it isn't ready, they'll still give you your keys - they just won't tell you what room they open until it is ready. :) You get all your hotel info. They'll store your luggage (and groceries, if you have them) until you get into your room.

You can use the hotel pool or go to the parks or whatever you want.

Don't worry a bit about arriving before 3:00. They do this like 100 times a day. No problem! :)

I've had good experiences with Online Check-in and getting to the parks early. The last two times I did that we arrived at MCO around 10am, and were dropped off by Magical Express at the resorts around 11am and our rooms were actually ready for us! Either way as others have said, if you show up and check in early they will happily get you your key to the world cards and let you go spend money in the parks, you just won't be able to access your room until later if it isnt ready for you yet.

We've honestly been able to check in before the official time before but last time bell services held our belongings, kept our goodies in a fridge and we sat by the pool, had lunch. It was wonderful.

Checked in last year on 10/1 at about 9:15AM. Room was ready and we were able to go straight to it and were in our first park by 10:15.
