Charging your popcorn to your room?

I don't know if this would be considered strange or not, but when I told the group I was with why I was late getting back to them (I was in line behind the popcorn woman, with whom the CM had a little trouble dealing with how to handle this) they laughed.

I'm confused...what was the problem? You can charge your popcorn/IC/soda at most locations to your room or to your credit/debit card.

About the only places you can't use your room key (with charging privlidges set up) or a credit card are the smaller snack carts that don't have an on-line register, and the walk-around vendors like balloons and glow stuff before the parades. Chances are, if it has a register, it can take the card. It must've been one of the smaller popcorn wagons.

Many of the smaller carts. Popcorn, Ice Cream, Soda etc have devices installed to scan the room keys. However many of the coffee carts such as the one outside AK and several in Epcot are operated by a third party and do not do the room key charge.

If it was MK, they had them, if it was Epcot they had them, and if it was MGM they had them. The only park I'm not sure about is AK. But all the other popcorn wagons have them.

All of the snack and drink carts I encountered last August had the registers. Believe me, I went to a lot, so it must be a very small amount that doesn't carry them.

But isn't this almost like someone writing a check at your local convenience store for a soda, with 15 people waiting in line, then having to show ID, etc.,etc.

Some people show learn how to carry at least SOME money. /rant

You don't need to show ID or sign anything when purchasing popcorn with your room key.

I know,:o but I find it wise to carry some cash in case you find yourself someplace that doesn't charge.

(I also never write a check at a conveniece store! )

Last year at the F&WF I only had a $100 bill and they just opened the tents and I had a hard time cashing it. I had to hit several times before I found a tent with enough change.

Ah. Must be new since the last time I've actually bought anything or looked at the smaller carts (i.e. a couple years). I tend to only go to counter service or the larger snack places like Sleepy Hollow for my snacks.

Not if you are on the dining plan which you are then entitled to a snack per day which would be soda, popcorn, ice cream, etc. and the only way to purchase them is by using your room key since all your dining options are put on that card.
