Charging to the Room

I'll be on the DDP for my trip. I'm wondering if I'll be able to charge tips to my room and then pay them off with gift cards?

I believe you can, just remember that you only have a certain amount you can charge to the room before they cut you off. Then you will have to go to guest services at a park or hotel to pay it down, I have been told you can call and do it as well, but I don't know how that will work.

You can also just pay the tip with gift cards when they give you the check. That's what we did last year. Eliminates one step.

Yes, but be careful. We just got back 6 weeks ago and had gift cards to use to pay off our room charge. But never got to because they went and charged our card in the middle of our stay because we had used 1/2 of the allotted room charge.
I had never had that happen before, normally as long as we were under the total allotted, they held off until the our last night to charge us.

We must have gotten a bad CM then because he seemed annoyed that I even asked about why they charged the card already. He stated that it was their policy and nothing could be done about it.
It wasn't a huge deal for us because we just used the cards to book a bounceback instead but I had never had that happen. We tend to average about $800 worth of room charges because we charge everything to our rooms. Maybe it is different per resort, we normally stay at CSR and this time we were at POR.

I mean, I know about the limit but I never heard about them charging once you hit half.
