Charging Privileges

I'm looking for info about reducing the amount of cash we take into the parks on our September WDW visit.

I've read about using your park key to charge meals and merchandise back to your room, but I really don't want to use a credit card if possible. I would rather use cash/traveler's checks. Is that possible?

I also know that not all purchases are chargeable back to the room.

Also, is it possible to do the same on the Disney Cruise Lines?

Thanks for any input!

Great info from all, so the max at Pop Century will then be $500 even if it's given in cash/traveler's checks, right? or would more be allowed?
Like New2WDW said.

You can place $500 in cash down. If you also place a CC down, then you can charge $1000 worth of things back to your room before any other payment is needed.

Can you request a higher amount to be placed on your credit card? We will be staying at the CBR for 8 nights and between my wife, 2 teenagers we will eat up $500 in no time at all!!!

Last year, at Pop Century, when we went over the $500 limit, we had to go to the front desk to get another $500 limit. This year, can have them put a $500 limit and a another $500 behind it as a back up?

The limit for charging with a CC as guarantee is 500.00. You can put down another 500.00 or more in cash and increase your limit to 1000.00 or more (depends on the amount of cash you put down as a guarantee).

If you are out in the parks and you can't charge back...ask for a manager to call and have a payment taken on your card (if near limit) or to have it posted manually by the resort per the merch/food location.

You cannot use cash on the cruise ship. You must charge everything you buy on board to your key to the world card. I think you can pay the bill with cash

At the ports of call you can pay cash or charge, no room card, except castaway cay. It was funny in Mexico our bill was like 2 or 3 hundred something pesos. That equaled about $20.
I would suggest you use a credit card in the ports of calls because you get the best exchange rate that way.

Limits!!!

Just a note about the $500 limit. Our first trip we were out eating and the waitress (very politely) informed me that I exceeded my $500 limit and they put me on the phone to my Resort to approve another $500 and that was that.
