I know that with the magic bands you can charge items to your room. Does this also apply at restaurants if you don't have the DDP? Can we just charge the meals to the room and pay it at the end?

Yes!
Yes. As long as you are staying at a Disney resort, there's almost nothing you can not charge to your room.
I thought I'd hate the MagicBands when they came out -- until I ventured from my hotel one day and inadvertently left my wallet in the room. Paying for drinks by the pool? MagicBand! T-shirt in the gift shop? MagicBand! CS lunch? MagicBand!
Another advantage (if you're like me and like to do a post-mortem of your vacation spending) is that your room invoice will provide a neat list of all your MagicBand purchases, so you can keep track of your on-property expenses by category and location (as opposed to a credit card statement, which would also list what you spent at the airport, or anywhere else, during your trip dates).
I still get carded, 7 years later.Paying for drinks by the pool? MagicBand!
Each resort has a charging limit. $1,500 at values and moderates, $2,000 at Deluxe and DVC (I think). But within those limits, yes. I usually stop by the front desk every day or two and pay off my balance with a gift card just to be sure I have a sense of where I stand. And I can pay at the resort with a Disney gift card? It would be great to be able to see the grand total at the end instead of having to gather up a week's worth of receipts to see what I spent as opposed to what it would have cost for the DDP.

Keep in mind that this ONLY works on DISNEY resorts - if you're staying at say, the Swan/Dolphin, your MB is basically only a park ticket. You can't open your doors with them, and you can't charge anything to your MB.

That's not accurate. I stayed at POR in March and we charged our breakfast to our MBs on the morning we left. You can charge using your MB until midnight of the day before you check out regardless of what time you are leaving the next day (no charging your breakfast or lunch on departure day.)
Yes, you can charge on your departure day, I have done it many times. Correct. You can keep charging on your MB on the day you check out as long as you have an active credit card on the account. That's not accurate. I stayed at POR in March and we charged our breakfast to our MBs on the morning we left.
You cannot. But if you charge to your room, you can pay the balance off with the gift card. It won't charge to your credit card until your last day.Does anyone know if you can link a Disney GC to the MDE app?
