I'm sure I've asked this before, but can't remember...

For an ADR at a regular (non-signature) restaurant, if you don't show up (or cancel shortly before the time of your ADR) is there a charge? There's only one time I can see this happening (Epcot lunch during F&W), but would rather not get stuck with a charge.

Yep....starting Oct 31st there will be a charge. On a recent trip to Disney, my husband and I made last minute (the day before) reservations for The Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast. We took the boat from The WL to The CR and then monorail to The GFR. We arrived early and checked in. The hostess said she was able to seat us early because a party of 26 never showed for their ADR that AM. Very thoughtless and inconsiderate. I can understand why Disney will be charging for not canceling 24 hours in advance.

I like this policy. Why would you set up a ADR and not show up unless something bad happened. I have had spur of the moment stuff like adding a ADR but if I had one I really want to eat there.

We have a lunch ADR at San Angel Inn during Food & Wine, and it's possible that we won't need to use it if the grazing at the F&W booths is adequate - that's why we might not need the ADR (we're not using a dining plan). I would cancel as soon as I knew, but wasn't sure if there was a charge for not cancelling within 24 hours or something. This is before 10/31.

All our other ADRs I'm sure we want.

Yeah as long as you made the reservation prior to 10/31, you won't be charged if you cancel same day. Starting 10/31, they'll hold a cc on any dining reservation.

I think it's a great change. It must make scheduling staff a small nightmare when a restaurant that was supposed to be full ends up half-empty when there are probably plenty of guests out there upset because they couldn't get a reservation.

Do you think that happens a lot? I don't know. But I agree it seems lika good idea, and should make it easier for people to make ADRs. I'm always very good about cancelling reservations ASAP if I know I won't need them.

Technically it's one day, not 24 hours. So you can cancel up till 11:59 the night before with no penalty.

Good for guests, bad for staffing and management. The cancellation should be 24 hours, not 11:59pm. CM's could be scheduled for the next day while they are working the same shift during the day before the cancelled ADR. It would also allow guests to schedule their ADRs for a park they hope to visit the next day.
