In 30 days I am bringing my son for his two year old birthday. My original idea was to take him to Magic Kingdom on his birthday and trying to get a table for party of 3 (wife, son and me) for either breakfast, lunch or dinner as Long as he can See at least some of his favorite characters (mickey,Donald, goofy, pluto, minnie, daisy)

Unfortunatelly everything for that day is Unavailable now. I even was considering going to whatever Park as Long as i can find character meal.

Question is. Which of the restaurants is more likely to become Available? Is it common to cancel reservations and open availability?

Is there any benefit in calling WDW Dine option instead of keep looking at web?

Please help me get ideas. I am travelling so Long to celebrate this day for my son i would like to be special moment.

Thanks

Keep an eye on Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary Resort, character meals and just minutes from the front gate of the MK when walking.

Not sure if calling would help but it can't hurt. Good luck!

That is the one I liked at the very first time. I can not believe there is no room for three more People... its a buffet
Thanks

Chef Mickey's is a very popular restaurant and is typically booked solid months in advance. The fact that it is a buffet is irrelevant as people are at the table just as long (if not longer) as if it were order-off-a-menu. There are only so many tables in the restaurant.

That being said, keep checking closer to the day you want to eat as there may be cancellations.

This ^^^^^ Also.. look into Garden Grill at Epcot. They may be an option as well if all else fails. Good luck!

At MK itself, I think crystal palace is your only character option- no mickey but they have pooh and the gang. We spent a birthday there one year. Not my fave but kids like it. We once got chef mickeys on short notice. It's walking distance, or your son would love the monorail. For that age I would def try MK for a birthday. Try back every day- it's a pain but some ppl book multiple readies and cancel later in. Good luck!

Are you completely sure? I´ve been searching at http://allears.net/dining/location/cape-may-cafe for instance and nothing says about characters for dinner buffet. In fact I was reading dinner reviews of this place and nobody even mentions the characters. It would be very dissapointing to go with my little kid to celebrate birthday and no characters are over there.
Cape May Cafe certainly DOES NOT have characters at dinner. Breakfast only. From disneyworld.com:

Seafood-and-More Dinner Buffet
This seafood-and-more buffet offers a mouthwatering array of clams, mussels, shrimp, chicken and more. Round out your meal with such hearty sides as mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. Be sure to save room for the delicious assortment of seaside sweets.

Please note: Disney Characters join Guests for breakfast only.

Have you looked at Donald's Safari Breakfast or Lunch at Animal Kingdom? It's at Tusker House.

It has been 2 years but Cape May did not have characters at it for dinner. Could have changed but I'm not seeing it listed only breakfast. I'd keep trying there for breakfast, it is large. I'd also keep trying Tusker at Animal Kingdom.

Side bar: 2 is a funny age. My DS loved Characters. My DD liked characters at a good distance away and we have zero pictures of her at that age with them cause she would freak if they came too close. They will approach a table and wave vs snuggling up close if that turns out to be the case.

Definitely call and tell the person you speak with as they can do a broader search much more easily than you can online. As Kyle said, Cape May at dinner does NOT Have characters, breakfast only does though and it is a pretty good location, food and atmosphere wise. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!! Marie

Garden grill would be my vote. Chip, dale, Mickey and someone else (goofy maybe) last time we went maybe 4 years ago. Also a fun setting and some of the best food for character dining. Actually taking out 11 and 9 yo kids back as it was so much fun.

The Wyndham Lake Buena Vista (DTD area) has character dining at LakeView Restaurant and Horizons Lounge
for breakfast on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. I'm not sure who is there but may be worth a looksee. On-site fills up quick. It's really a crap shoot on getting an ADR via a cancellation.

If you don't end up getting an ADR you may want to at least ask at Crystal Palace in MK when you're there to see if they have any day-of cancellations or walk-up spots. We did that on a previous trip (2012) and were able to eat lunch (4 of us). We had to wait about 20-30 minutes. It may have been a fluke, but it may be worth a shot!

Also - make sure to get him a Happy Birthday button when you check in and let people know - like CM's - that it's his birthday. CM's are great about helping you make it a special day.

Hope he gets to dine with some of his favorites!

Are you looking for a buffet with specifically one of the fab 5 or a classic character? Or are any characters ok?
If it's the latter, look into Ohana (if you can get it) they have Stitch and Lilo at breakfast last I knew. Also 1900 Park Faire at Grand Floridian has characters at meals. Good luck!

Until Know I've found reservations at either Park Fare for breakfast and Tusker House for Lunch. That means either going to MK or to AK on my son[s birthday.

I still would like to wait to see if I can make it into Chef Mickeys, that way I can get to see mickey and after that celebrating his birthday at MK

Thanks everyone for your kind comments

We are taking my 20 month old granddaughter to Disney next month and I tried to get Chef Mickey, Crystal Palace and Cinderella's Castle for breakfast and they were totally booked. I tried every day....whenever I sat, I logged on to MDE. I am still trying for Chef Mickey, but I managed to get 1900 Park Fare and The Crystal Palace for a early lunch....11:30 for both. Keep trying....persistence just may pay off! Have a Magical Trip! :cat:
