Character Dining - First time Visitor

We will be making our first trip to DLR next October. We have gone to WDW every year since 2004 and can't wait to see the original.
Our sons love Character meals (ages 14 and 6). Any suggestions?

Thanks!
the wonderful thing about Goofys Kitchen and Minnies Plaza is that some of the characters are random(moreso at Minnies) and most of the do not do back to back sets. So at Minnies you may see as many as 12 different characters in one meal - the only downside is depending on timing you may miss one of them.

Personally, Id rather have a chance at seeing someone unusual than no chance at all like at WDWs static never-changing character dining options.

We had a great experience at Goofy's last year. We booked dinner for about 15 minutes after they opened for dinner on a busy weekend. Most of the tables were empty (it got much busier before we left) but early on the buffet was fresh and varied, and the characters were everywhere! The best wdw comparison is, of course, Chef Mickeys. We liked everything about GK better. We are, btw, an all adult group. We are such nerds!

Was Mickey at GK?
