Character dining advice?

Hello everyone, I love the forum, very informative. Anyway, I am taking my 7yo and 3yo sons to Disneyworld in January. This will be our first ntrip to DW, but I've been to DL over a dozen times, most recently last March. While there my sons really loved the character meals, and starting off with a decent breakfast really seemed to get the day off on the right foot. So what I want to know is, what Character breakfst or meals do you recomend, and are they in the park or in a Hotel. I prefer the ones in Hotels so we can go early before the park opens(we live on a dairy farm so we are all early risers). Thanks for the advice and I will be back with many more questions prior to January.

i am going in december 2005 and i have booked cinderellas royal table for breakfast on christmas day (75 days to go!). but i have also been looking at other character meals and im leaning towards donalds breakfastosaurus in the animal kingdom, i also want to go to buffets and trials at fort.wilderness but i dont think that is a character breakfast.

have fun on what you decide and dont forget there are loads of menus on allearsnet.com.

Character Breakfasts at Hotels

If you want recommendations on meals at resorts here are mine -

Ohana's (Polynesian)
1900 Park Fare (Grand Froridian)

Others though I don't recommend them, but probably should experience them at least once...

Chef Mickey's (Contemporary)
Cape May (Yacht and Beach Club)

I would recommend the Breakfastosaurus at the Animal Kingdom. You can actually make an Advance Reservation for before the park opens, say 8:00 a.m. The characters are Donald Duck, Mickey, Goofy and Pluto and they all wear these cute camp shirts in dinosaur prints. I think it's the only meal where you are guaranteed to see Donald, who is a personal favorite of mine. Then your breakfast is out of the way before the park opens and you are already well inside, right by the Dinosaur! ride, to be exact. One year, my son was the very first person on the ride that day, which he thought was pretty cool. Since Animal Kingdom has the shortest hours, this really maximizes your time there. Remember to avoid the day when the park has it's Extra Magic Hour, because in that case you would not gain any time.

Chef Mickey's to meet Minnie, Mickey, Pluto, Goofy, and the Chipmunks (in the morning). In the Contemporary.

Donald's Breakfastosaurus in DAK, but you don't meet Minnie or the Chipmunks (Donald, Mickey, Goofy, Pluto)

Cape May Cafe (in the Beach Club resort) has the Chipmunks, Minnie, and Goofy

1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian) has the Pooh characters in the morning, as does the Crystal Palace

If you like princesses...

Cinderella's Royal Table (IN the Magic Kingdom) or Restaurant Aker...Asker...THE PRINCESS NORWEIGAN BREAKFAST...yeah, that one. lol

Donald's Breakfastosaurus

Very good suggestion Sharon....Donald's Breakfastosaurus is one of the best character breakfasts at WDW....good food selection and wonderful character interaction.

Plus...where else can you eat with Donald Duck?

:D

In Chef Mickey's in the evening. Now, I know he doesn't walk around (He has TOTALLY legitimate reasons for that), but you can still see him in the restaurant.

Ohana is getting stitch -- family style doesn't provide as much selection as buffets, but the hawaii bread is AWESOME! Pooh at the Crystal palace is a great food buffet and each character will hit your table at least 2x usually.

We stayed at chef mickeys for 2 hours one time and only saw 2 of the characters -- never saw the other four because they were making their way through so slow. Anywhere with chip and dale is good because they really work up their characters every time we see them.

Ate at Chef Mickey's for character dining and wasn't really impressed. I thought the food was good, you can't go wrong at a buffet really, but thought that out waitress was a bit...un-Disney with her attitude. I realize that the Contemporary is one of the crown jewel resorts, but I thought it was cold and unwelcoming. Really not as Disney as say POR or Coronado Springs. If you want character dining I might suggest breakfast with Pooh at the Crystal Palace in MK. The food is good, but be sure to wash your hands after you meet with Piglet because Piglet plays with Pooh.

First off, welcome aboard! Relax and enjoy yourself while you are here.

Breakfast is probably our most favorite meal in WDW. As for Character breakfasts we love Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary. Many people love the one at 'Ohana in the Polynesian and Cape may Cafe in the Beach Club Resort.

If I may suggest my favorite breakfast, though not a character one, try the skillet breakfast (all you care to eat) in the Whispering Canyon cafe in the Wilderness Lodge. The food is yummy and the atmosphere is fantastic. I think your boys would love it!

Check out the menus at allearsnet...

DH and I do the same thing - we try to start every day with a buffet breakkie... Not only are they normally yummy at WDW, but they also allow you to get through 'till dinner with only a small snack, if anything!

My favourite character breakfast is at the Crystal Palace! I usually recommend it to people who are going to WDW for the first time because the characters appeal to both girls and boys, the atmosphere is great and the food is really top notch!

(If you want a good non-character breakkie, I would definitely suggest going to Boma... Amazing for both breakfast and dinner!!! :slurp: )

That shouldn't have happened, and I'm sorry that that did. Honestly, each character is supposed to see at least 3/4 of the restaurant before they take a quick break. If you didn't have that opportunity, you should have spoken up. The attendants would have been more than happy to accomodate you. A problem area, especially, is the big rectangular room to the left of the dessert station. Characters always get caught up in there. Also, Goofy never makes the rounds in the mornings. He's supposed to stay in the lobby, happy to see you when you have time to come up to him!

Unfortunately, I know some of the CMs you're talking about. They're actually NICER to some guests than they are to other CMs.

We used to go there for dinner quite often....but the food has gotten average....it's gotten louder, but our last trip there did it for us...I'll never go back again.

We and another (non-related party) arrived about 30 minutes early for a PS. They got seated 30 minutes before us and we were there an hour and only saw 2 characters...and the CM was snotty.

Just a quick aside---if you want your child's picture with the characters PLEASE seat them on the aisle side of the table and have the books and pens ready to go. Thank you.
