Changing Party Size with an ADR

I have ADR's for parties of eight that have since been reduced to parties of four. What should I do?

Leave them as they are and just tell them when I arrive that the party size is different?

Try to get them changed? I'm afraid that by changing them, I'd have to cancel, then re-book and I'm afraid I'd never get the ones I want as our trip is Christmas Day to New Year's Day which I know is very busy. But, I also don't want to hold a table that someone else could use.

Thoughts? Thanks

I would call and see what they are able to do. In a lot of situations a table for 8 is really booked as two tables of 4, so it might not be a big deal. By calling it might allow things to go smoother than trying to do it online on your own.

I'm with Evan. Call. Reduce the ones you can but don't cancel something because you don't have the 8. You can show up at those and just let them know the other 4 couldn't make it. At least you tried. Not everyone would be that considerate of strangers these days.

I would call and reduce what you can to 4, explain that you don't want to lose the reservation because of the change. They should be able to do this with a clean split at 4. If you were only removing a couple people it likely wouldn’t have mattered. Have a great trip!!

Calling is the best route. As mentioned earlier, the ressis was probably two tables of four anyway (usually specifies party may not be seated together when ressis is finalized).
