The menus and pickup locations for Picnic in the Park at Animal Kingdom have been modified. In particular, Tier 1 orders are now picked up at DinoBites in DinoLand U.S.A, and Tier 2 orders are picked up at Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery. Full details are available here.

Was the ham taken off the Tier 2 menu during this revision? Or did it happen earlier and I just didn't notice?

Is there a reason for separating the pick up locations? And why make the Tier 1 pick up location Dinoland?

I'm thinking there may be a couple factors:

They may want to spread the crowds doing the Picnics around the park. By having two pickup windows, it distributes people more evenly.

Two pickup locations also lessens the possibility of over-crowding the pickup window.

It may be that they wanted to move the pickup location away from Tusker House, but had to at least keep the roasted chicken there because it has to be cooked there. Sandwiches and sides can easily be handled in the Restaurantosaurus kitchen in the same building as Dino Bites.

Is this good. I would only eat the ham sandwich but why only 1 side for 2 people and 2 desserts? I thnk I would like to try this but want an opinion first as to how it taste and the places that are best for the picnic??

We were planning on doing this on our trip next week, but will now probably give it a miss this time. We were going to do the sandwiches, but with the change in pickup, we will probably skip it. I don't find Dinoland a very inviting place to have a picnic and by looking at the map, there appears to be only one picnic location in that area. I'm travelling with Mystic, I'm older and she's in a walking cast so hiking to another picnic area is going to be a pain. So, we will probably just skip it and eat at a quick service.

I am looking forward to trying the Picnic in the Park this January. It sounds like a great idea and something different. The chicken sounds good too!

We have done the chicken lunch, and found it to be a good deal.
We are a party of 4, and ordered the lunch for 4, but next time we'll order the lunch for 3 instead.
There was way too much food for the four of us, and we ended up throwing out a couple pieces of chicken and some of our side dish.

You asked about the sides... they are big enough for several to share, so that's why you get fewer than the # of people you are ordering for.

We picked ours up in Africa, and ate there in the open-air dining area next door (can't remember names, sorry! -- but it's outside of Tusker house by the outdoor bar).

One other note: they offer fruit (apple or orange) as a choice for dessert, and the desserts are big, so we just shared a dessert and got the fruit as our other dessert so that we could have it for a snack later in the day. Worked well.

Overall, I thought it was a nice change of pace from the other CS places in AK, so would recommend it.
