Changed Philharmagic?

Hey all. I saw Philharmagic for the first time about a year ago, then when I went to WDW a couple of weekends ago, saw it again. I still loved it, but it seemed different, and slightly worse.

I clearly remember the first time's ending being very abrupt. The top and sides of the stage come crashing down and everything's back to normal. BAM! End. Crazy. :hammer:

This time, however, it seems like they've made the ending less intense. Mickey comes back to calm everything down a bit more gradually, and the stage sides and top come down much more slowly.

Was I hallucinating, or did they really change it at some point? Was the first ending too intense for some kids, so they toned it down a bit?

Where did you sit? Where you sit in PhilharMagic make a great deal of difference. Some people have even gotten a little, umm, dizzy when they sit in the front row and watch the Aladdin Carpet Chase Sequence.

I'm just talking about the ending here. The rest was exactly the same.

Well, AFAIK, nothing has changed in PhilharMagic. Perhaps it seemed more dramatic the first time? Many attractions have that de-grading over time effect.

I've seen it, oh gosh, probably a couple dozen times since it opened last year and the only difference I know of is that they don't do the jasmine scent in the flying carpet scene anymore. (Too many people allergic to it apparently.)

It's always had that Donald falls down after Iago knocks the hat out of his hands, whirlwind with the instruments around and around then Mickey comes out and reigns in the instruments, the curtain comes down on the side and it all lands in a crash every time I've seen it. I think I started seeing it in...um...October? of 2003. Perhaps you saw a pre-open show or something?

I don't think anything has changed except that maybe the first time you saw it, it was better because it was the first time. Usually I like things more the first time I experience them. So this is probably what happened.

I think DOOP! is right. I know each time I've seen it, it's seemed shorter! Of course it's not, it's just that I'm used to it and know what's to come and when it's going to end. I think you always have the most "wow!" reaction the very first time you ever ride any ride.

Okay, so maybe the movie itself is the same, but when I saw it, the arch didn't crash down anymore - it descended gracefully. That was my favorite part!

Anyone know if they changed it? It made a big difference on the overall effect on the end.

Maybe it was temporary technical difficulties and it'll be well when I go to MK on Wed. :sohappy:

That's what I suspect. I saw the passholder preview and have seen it many times after that up to September, and as MissM said, the only change seems to be the lack of Jasmine.

I just asked my coordinator from when I worked in Fantasyland, he informed me that the Jasmine still works. It is supposed to be there. And it would only not be there if something was wrong. But something always seems to be wrong with Philhar, that's what happens when things are new.

There is a chance that it might come down slower...I know during testing they where kind of having problems with little ones jumping out of there seats and running up onto the stage (course it would go ahead and e-stop)

But in the event someone got up there the might have slown it down some. But nothing that I noticed.

But then again maybe it was just for that day.

Other then that, I have seen the show more times then I have fingers and toes and it seems the same to me. Just the lack of Jasmine.

I have to say that I'm sorry you have missed the scent, but it definitely is still there. I know I've smelled it many times when I was a CP in Fantasyland attractions during the spring. And like I said a current Fantasyland coordinator says it hasn't been removed. Since he's sorta in charge of the place, I would trust him.

No, I didn't miss it. I know what it smells like and it's quite strong. (In fact, I was happy it was gone because it made my eyes tear.) People who have gone any time after the first couple weeks of it opening don't even know that there's supposed to be something there. I've even had people argue that there was no such thing.

I even asked about this waaaaaaaaaaaay back in March on another board and got the same answer:

The jasmine sent was taken out very shortly after it opened. The reason was that they didn't know that jasmine is one of the top 10 allergic reaction causing substances and it was making people sick.

I am hyper scent sensitive. I can't wear purfumes, nor scented soaps nor even scented laundry detergants. It comes as a fun bonus with my oh-so-fun migraines and, since the condition is neurological, my nose knows strong smells. (i.e. there's no turning it off)

So unless each of the two dozen or so times I've been there over the last year - not to mention the other people I've talked to who haven't smelled it since right after opening - it's just not working on only my specific visits, it's simply not been there. The apple pie, yes. Most certainly. You can even smell it again in the finale when Donald's spinning around with the instruments. But jasmine? No.

I have to agree with MissM here. Only time I have smelled it was during CM previews, during the press event, and then right as it opened to the public. Then I have been many times after and the smell is gone.

Now I am 100% sure its still there, sitting downstairs waiting for it to be turned on. Its just not in the show anymore.

I was able to get this update on the Jasmine scent. It was officially removed from the show due to possible allergic reactions. It's been removed for a few months now and sadly, it will not be returning.

Maybe the crash the first time you saw it WAS the technical difficulty. I'd imagine it's much less wear and tear on the scenery if it comes down gradually. Just a thought.

it did come down faster before

I saw the show only twice once about 6 months and again 3 weeks ago. I did too notice at the ending that it no longer crashes down. It comes donw slow. I really liked the crashing effect the first time and I hope they didnt change this part of it.
