5:45 PM 8/13 Disney announced:

Cellular service has been disrupted in and around Magic Kingdom Park, Disney's Polynesian Resort and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Guests experience weak cell signals on their mobile devices in these areas. Service is expected to be restored after 10 p.m. tonight. As an alternative for data coverage, please use the complimentary Disney-Guest Wi-Fi network, available in most Guest areas.

Universal studios has a bigger issue at hand- power outage in the theme park.
HateToFly reported that E.T. Adventure and The Simpsons Ride were evac'd. And some Orlando news station tweeted a picture of a hoard of people clustered near the entrance. I think the issue was solved quickly though(?).

Nothing was really affected at Islands of Adventure.

Cell service over at Disneyquest worked fine, Epcot too has seemed fine today. I don't use data as I mainly use my iTouch rather than my phone to connect to the internet.

Yay! After having to put up with people flashing and yakking on their cell phones during the library scene in Tower of Terror, in the boat ride through Pirates, and during the Fantasia scene in Philharmagic, among other places, I feel no sympathy with people who can't turn their freaking cell phones off while experiencing the Magic Kingdom. I hope there's a similar disruption when I visit the World in October.

Yep. I also had no issues at the Hotel or Epcot today, outside of the iffy spot on the back side of Port Orleans Riverside and in Le Cellier...

Le Cellier has always had the cell phone issue. Ever since I got a phone I've never been able to get a signal there.

Came and went for me...but yeah, I've had similar experiences in the past. The only reason why I noticed it was that our whole call center went down and was operating on battery backup and the CC manager was freaking out because she had removed the key to the offsite backup CC so the staff there couldn't relocate...dunno what she expected me to do about it since I'm in Florida...

There's a reason why I put that key on the clipboard hanging by the front door!

Take time away from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, emails and texting and enjoy your time with your loved ones. Talk to your kids at the dinner table instead of letting them play games. It won't hurt anyone. As a general rule during our vacations- no phones. If there is an emergency, they will find you.

I completely agree, however with MyMagic+ your mobile device is becoming a must in the parks. I generally lock my phone in my safe in the room and don't even bring it, but the new frontier of Disney Family Vacations is upon us! :grumpy:
