Cell Phone Camera VS Stand Alone Camera

I am still torn as to what to use during our trip in a couple weeks- the cell phone camera vs a stand alone. I rarely bring astand alone camera and I'd rather not bring along too much stuff but we are doing the MNSSHP and Universal HHN, as well as the parks this trip.

I'm planning on getting the new Iphone 5S before we go.

So...Do most people use a stand alone camera? Think I could get away with the Cell phone camera instead?

It would depend on what stand alone camera you are using. If you have a small point and shoot then a phone will work just fine. If you have a higher end point and shoot with a good zoom or a DSLR then your phone pictures are not going to compare.

I'm about to upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy S4 so I will have that with my Nikon DSLR camera. For me I couldn't imagine just relying on a phone camera for pictures but that's just me.

It all depends on what you'll do with the pictures. If you plan on printing them out and putting them in a frame you might want to think about investing in a small point and shoot camera just as a standby. But if you just take pictures and upload them to Facebook or another website then you might be fine with just a phone camera.

Another option is just using the Photopass Photographers for pictures that you'll print out as souvenirs.

The iPhone 5s does have a better quality camera than the iPhone 5, but for picture taking reasons, I can't imagine putting all those pictures on my phone. Of course, I take a gazillion pictures while I am at WDW; it's like I have to remember every detail. I put a camera in layaway the other day just for the purpose of Disney! It is a point and shoot camera, but the zoom is excellent and it has wi-fi. Rather save my phone battery for calling people (and looking at wait times).

Sorry can't help my DS makes fun of my cell phone all the time; e.g. "Dad you have the only cell phone with a hand crank." "Dad which is heavier a brick or you cell phone?" or like a current commerical "Dad the 90's called, they want their phone back."

You know nothing beats an iPad camera.

Seriously though, it depends on your real camera. I have an iphone 4s. Takes really good photos, but the real camera takes so much better (not as many blurry photos, more pixels, fastr shots). My iPhone takes terrible night shots and is not so great with the flash, so I always want to have a real camera.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think I will pick up a quick little camera for our trip. I was hoping to go light to the parks, but after everyones comments and suggestions, its obvious the cell camera wont be enough.

Thanks again

My little Nikon Coolpix camera bag has a loop on it, so I always wear a belt and use that camera for ease and convenience. However that being said, the zoom lens is NOT that great, so I'm looking for a similar camera with a larger zoom. It's still easier than carrying my larger digital camera around my neck!!:joyfull:

Don't feel bad. My cell phone is from the dark ages as well, and it suits me just fine.

As for cameras, I always use a quality point-and-shoot,but I am impressed with the quality of photos my daughter has taken on her iTouch 5.

I took my old Canon XTI 8Mpx SLR + iPhone 5 March 2013 and while I had plenty of decent iPhone snapshots turn out OK on the phone, anything involving zoom or low light turned out 1000% better on the SLR. I mostly used the phone for audio/video capture since my "big camera" is too old to do so (though newer SLR's and snapshot cams typically have vid built-in).I'm a bit intrigued by whether snap-on zoom lenses are at all worth looking intohttp://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/iphone-telephoto-lens/
