Does Disney stil give out the celebration pins for anniversaries/birthdays etc? Do they do anything special for celebrations anymore?

Yep they still give out buttons. Just go to Guest relations at any park to get them. And it's a hit or miss chance if you get anything. The closest thing you might get is aknowledgement of said celebration by CM's...

Yes they give out buttons but as was said - it's hit or miss if you get anything extra. We got them for our 20th anniversary a couple years ago. We got a couple of free appetizers (as opposed to desserts - we were on DP), and our server at LTT gave us a nice Mickey & Minnie Christmas ornament (we were there in December). Beyond that, we heard tons of 'Congratulations!' which was really cool.

We got pins when I proposed to my fiance at Disney. Got a few free desserts. a few extra fastpasses at rides from employees grabbing us and letting us go through FP. And at chef mickeys I got a great picture of Donald duck pushing me out of the way so he could propose to my fiance hahaha. Also you get tonssss of congrats from Disney employees and usually starts some interesting conversations.

They still give them out, but lots of people wear them. So odds are you won't get much other than a congrats, or happy birthday from the CMs and maybe other guests, but you may get lucky and get a free snack or the like.

The CM's that are on the ball and like to interact still notice the pins and make wearing them magical. I've been lucky and run into a Guest Relations CM who does calligraphy and dress the button up nicely.

You might or you might not get anything when it comes to special occasions. For example, on both my birthdays I've gotten several freebies - desserts, cards, etc. But when it was my brother's first time at Disney World, he got nada. I think it all depends on the CM, the occasion, where you're at, etc. But you still get the pins.

I'd imagine that abuse had killed it off their ability to do anything really special.

Like for instance, people get a birthday pin, and wear it all week instead of just on their birthday.

The number of people I've seen on some trips all wearing some kind of 'special' pin is unreal.

I can remember 2 years ago seing a group of 10-12 people....each one of them was wearing a birthday or anniversary pin. The liklihood of them all being genuine is pretty remote.

This is nice to know. I'll be going for my birthday this summer and have always been too shy to ask for a button but I will this time as it is something nice to have :) Unlike other people however I do not want special attention, I'm too timid for that

Honeymoons/Engagements seem to get more. Those are more special than Birthdays/Anniversaries etc. We got so much for our honeymoon. It was dead at the parks. It was over Thanksgiving week after 9/11. Everything was a walk on. Everywhere we were that saw our Bride/Groom pins gave us something...free snack, free beer/drink, free dinner. We were spoiled that trip. We were also spoiled by WDW when they lost our reservation. The senior manager handling the issue was superb.

They have actually clamped down on the honeymoons. I believe the only way to get the Just Married button now is to be married via Disney Weddings. Threads on those have occasionally popped up asking about them. You trip was also before the buttons became wicked popular and everyone started wearing them. During 2009 they did the "What will you celebrate?" promotion and I believe that is when they started having piles of buttons available (I think GR at MK sometimes has a cart full out buttons outside to pick up your own).

@dreamfinder for the just married pins you need to have a wedding at Disney. Does not have to be through Disney. So if you get married at one of the on property non Disney resorts you can still get the pin.

It used to be that you could just go to the Ticket and Transportation Center and ask them, they had a whole bunch of each type. This may have changed though.
