Pre-Trip Celebrating 50x2 and 25, plus an additional year - December 2024

We're going back!

Let me first explain my title. We honeymooned at CBR and have spent the majority of our milestone anniversaries at WDW (plus a lot of trips with the kids in between!) and we had planned to return last December to celebrate my 50th birthday which is in November, our 25th anniversary which is Dec. 19, and Brian's 50th birthday which is in January. With our anniversary falling so close to the anniversary of Lily's death, we were just not emotionally ready to return, nor to leave the boys by themselves that close to the anniversary and Christmas, so we are returning this year to celebrate instead!

Here we are on our honeymoon way back in 1998 (sorry about the pictures of pictures, I'm being lazy today!):

Our anniversary is in December, but we took our honeymoon in Aug/September due to my school schedule!

We did not celebrate our 5th anniversary at WDW because Logan's first birthday was 10 days after our anniversary and we didn't want to leave him that close to Christmas and his birthday.

10th anniversary:

20th anniversary (we were there on our actual anniversary this year):

Now for this trip! We were very limited on when and how long this trip could be. Brian works as a paraprofessional at the high school and only has 3 personal days to use and he wanted to save his sick days in case he actually gets sick between now and then or later in the year, as he used all of his accumulated sick days plus some that other staff and teachers donated the semester after Lily's death. So we had to include a weekend in our park days and leave on an evening flight which I absolutely hate to do! I called to schedule this trip right after returning from our June trip to use the bounceback discount. The original dates I wanted were not available at CBR or any other hotel I was interested in, so we shifted the dates a little and will now be there Dec. 6-11. They also didn't have a king bed room available, so we will be in a water view 5th sleeper.

Our flight leaves from Columbus at 5:45pm on Friday the 6th. That allows Brian to get off at his normal time and still make it to the airport in time for the flight. I took Thursday and Friday off to prepare and pack.

We don't have tickets yet because there were no ticket deals going on at the time I booked. I was hoping they would extend the 4 park magic tickets that we used in June, but no such luck. Instead, they offered free park hopper upgrade when you book the holiday discounted rooms. Therefore, we are not eligible for that deal. Not sure if we will park hop or stick to the one park per day yet. We are not attending MVMCP or Jollywood Nights, so that limits what days we can attend MK and DHS if we choose to not get hoppers.

I am also undecided on whether we will purchase LLMP and what LLSP we will purchase. Rides are definitely not our focus this trip and there are only a couple that I want to be sure to ride. My initial thought was to buy LLMP for MK so I could get Tiana and DHS so I could be sure to get ToT and RnRC and a LLSP for Guardians, but with a short trip, I'm afraid I won't be able to get Tiana, which will negate the need to purchase for MK. Good thing I have awhile to decide what to do on that front!

I am contemplating purchasing a dessert party for our MK day because I definitely want to see the fireworks and Brian really despises the crowds for them. We've done the garden view before and enjoyed it, but now they have the garden area shared between before and after parties, so not sure it wouldn't be crowded as well, so thinking about the sit down one. We'll see. I am also thinking about a Candlelight Processional dining package, as that is a must see for me since we've never seen it.

I also have to find time to visit the Christmas Tree Trail at DS. This will probably have to be after our AK day.

Our return flight is at 3:50pm on the 11th. This leaves a little time for us in the morning, but not a whole lot to do much, so we'll probably do a sit down breakfast somewhere and resort hop a little bit before leaving for the airport.

They finally released the CP narrator list. Tituss Burgess is on the night we were planning to be in Epcot. I'm pretty indifferent about that, so we'll see how much we enjoy it. The only other narrator while we are there is Whoopi, and I've never been a big fan of hers, so not worth trying to switch everything around.

I ironed on the decal for my sweatshirt to wear on the trip (hopefully only in the mornings and evenings!)

Waiting until closer to trip time to check weather to decide if we'll be attempting all carry on again or if we'll check a bag. I'm thinking we'll have to check a bag because there is a whole bunch of new TOT merchandise that needs to come home with me that is not available online! Not to mention any cute holiday stuff!

Logan decided he didn't already have enough on his plate, and decided he needed to be scuba certified!

And Owen attended Homecoming last weekend with some of his soccer teammates. I love seeing the genuine smile on his face, as it's been way too long since we've seen it on a regular basis.

That decal is adorable, where did you find it?
Titus was really great in the “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” comedy series on Netflix years ago. He also has an awesome rendition of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” you can see it on YouTube. I wonder if he’s going to bring a more comedic twist to the CP, but not sure how much leeway the narrators get.

I’m always impressed by Logan’s determination and athleticism! How awesome that he found another passion!

Great photos of Owen! Homecoming already? I’ve been lurking on the trip reports for quite a few year, so I remember when he was just a kid.

I like how you are thinking ahead and bringing a checked bag for souvenirs! It would hurt bringing extra layers as well, from what I’ve read the weather can be very unpredictable during those weeks!

I ordered it from Etsy. It was labeled to be used for a child size shirt, but worked perfectly for what I wanted!

I'm looking forward to the Candlelight Processional regardless of who our narrator ended up being, so I can only be pleasantly surprised by him!

Too bad Logan keeps picking the most expensive things to become passionate about!!

Owen is a junior this year, so definitely old enough for Homecoming as hard as that is to believe! I was really happy when he wanted to go with his friends this year.

I definitely plan to have layers. We went in November one year and it was actually warmer at home in Ohio than it was in Florida! Learned my lesson that trip!

Love this!! So happy to see him smiling!!

And yay for Logan!! I can't imagine what you pay for all of that equipment.
We are so happy that his happy go lucky personality is starting to show itself again! Even his teachers have commented on how much they are enjoying the "new" Owen and the ones who knew him before are also commenting on how he seems more himself now.

Way too much!! We are spending way too much!!

And after 27 very frustrating minutes this morning at 6am, I was able to secure a Candlelight Processional dining package at Spice Road for lunch! Hit me with your favorites from Spice Road. We have never been and we're both excited to try something new!

A few cute cat pics for fun!

I know I've been much quieter in this PTR than I typically am, but it's harder to get motivated and excited the closer we get to the 2 year anniversary on Dec. 16. And there is a small possibility we may have to postpone the trip. My dad had a medical procedure this past week that resulted in him stopping breathing and having to be resuscitated. He is doing well now, but having further testing soon, so need to see what results are and make a decision.

I am still excited for the trip and there have been a few changes in the plans. The hours for our MK day have been extended until 11pm, so that will give us more time in the middle of the day to explore the MK area resorts and see their Christmas decorations without feeling rushed. We also added an ADR for Oga's when they announced the new menu, so we are having an early "lunch" there before taking a break at the Boardwalk area resorts to peruse their Christmas decorations. I was hoping for extended AK hours so we could do Disney Springs in the middle of the day and return for after dark activities at AK, but they left closing at 6pm, so not as much time to get back to the park. We'll probably just play it by ear that day.

I got Mickey mail earlier this week!

And I've been collecting some Disney Christmas earrings for the trip!

I had two kitties who made it very difficult to leave for Owen's soccer college showcase this morning!

I hope everything evens out for your Dad, and that you don't have to postpone. Keeping you all on my heart during what has to be a very hard time of year. Thankful you all have each other and something to look forward to.
Thanks! Everything seems fine with my dad for now. He had his next test and already talked to the radiologist about it. He likely will need surgery, but it wasn't cancer like they thought they would find, and his next appointment isn't until after we are back, so not likely going to have to postpone!

Which means it's Lightning Lane day! It was super easy! And I'm mostly pleased with my times!

Day 1 MK
Screenshot_20241129_071119_Disney World.jpg

I could have booked Tiana mid day, but we have lunch at Steakhouse 71 at 12:55 and then we plan to check out the Christmas decorations at the resorts, so I pushed it back to 5. I'll keep trying to move it to morning and keep trying to move Pirates a little earlier.

Day 2 DHS
Screenshot_20241129_071130_Disney World.jpg

I could have booked TOT in the morning too, but we will rope drop it and I love riding it at night, so chose the evening time on purpose.

Day 3 AK
No LL needed as the only two things I want to be sure to ride are Expedition Everest, which I can do single rider if needed, and Safari which we will do at park open.

Day 4 Epcot
Screenshot_20241129_071137_Disney World.jpg

I will definitely try for VQ also. Trying to decide if we'll want to rope drop Remy or just skip it this trip and rope drop Soarin' and Living with the Land. We'll see what we are feeling that day.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

So pleased to hear that you will not have to postpone your trip. What a relief that your dad doesn’t have cancer. Waiting for results are so stressful.
