I was considering trying the new pirate themed room at CBR. After searching may threads I've read that the Trinadad South bldg is extremely far from the food court and pool. Should I opt for a preferred room instead? Is is that far?

The Trinidad South rooms are far, I think that is why they will be rethemed to be more attractive to stay on that Island. There is a considerable difference in distance from Trinidad South buildings 34 and 35 compared to the rest of Trinidad South. Take a look at the map from allears: http://allears.net/acc/cbrmap.jpg

Request the closer buildings, b/c it is nice out that way all tranquil and quiet. If Trinidad South isn't an option any longer, don't pay extra for a preferred location. Request a building in Aruba or Jamaica closest to Caribbean Cay Island. The walk is short and it is really fun walking across the bridges and through the Island. Plus you don't pay extra for being the same distance away as a preferred location.

It also depends on when you go. We just moved over to CBR to take advantage of the buy 4/get 3 free offer and couldn't change our dates. The preferred buildings were already full. Like surfsupdon suggests, we're asking for Aruba or Jamaica so the boys can have fun going across the bridges and Caribbean Cay.

How far, time wise, is the walk from the furthest building?

Probably a good 15 minutes or so. Maybe a tad longer. The property is huge. I was there a week ago and was baffled by the size of the resort itself. Of course, they do have Internal Resort Shuttles which can take you from one "island" to another or to Center Town, where the food court and shop is. They're not always timely though. You may be better off taking a scenic stroll than waiting 15-20 minutes, possinly more, for a bus.

I'd say the most remote rooms at Trinidad South are 10-12 minute walk. The closest rooms are def under ten minutes away.

I have friends who exclusively stay in Trinidad South. It IS beautiful down that way.

Would you pay for the preferred room or just request one of the closer buildings?

Personally, I wouldn't drop the extra cash for a preferred room. I was concerned when I booked at the CBR because of everything I had heard about it being difficult to get around the property because of the size, and I didn't call and ask to be placed in one of the closer buildings either, but it all worked out. We were booked to stay in Martinique which was no more than a 5 minute walk from the Center Town area (also close to a pool and a "beach" area) and close to a bus stop. We were also the first to be dropped off/picked up more times than not. If you plan on requesting a certain "island" at the CBR Martinique is a good way to go.

We have also stayed in Aruba and it was a great location. It was very quiet and I never felt like the food court was too far, just a nice walk over the bridge.

If the pirate rooms interest you, I would go for it. Unless you plan on going to the food court area several times a day, a 10-15 minute walk shouldn't be too bad.:)
