We are looking at either CB or AK. For CB we would like to be as close to the main pool and food court as possible. I would like some advice on the best building/room designations for these resorts. Thanks!

I have stayed at the Caribbean Beach and preferred locations are Martinque and Trinidad North, Jamaica isn't too bad of a location either. The resort is very nice and it should be even better when the pool renovations are done this fall. Haven't stayed at or visited the Animal Kingdom Lodge so I can't help ya there.

I have stayed at both - I personally think if you can afford it, you should stay at AKL. One bus, amazing pool, live animals - so much to do, central location, great food court (literally one of the best if not the best on property), great restaurants. In my opinion, if you can swing it -AKL is amazing!!!! And I stayed in a standard view room!

I personally love the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I say if you have the means, then skip the moderate and go for the deluxe AKL.

I'm with everyone else - if you afford it, go for AKL. If you can afford a Savannah view room then your pretty much guaranteed a great view and everything is within easy walking distance (although I have heard complaints from people who were at the far ends of the hotel).
