Catastrophe Canyon not as "hot" as it use to be?

Hey,

After riding the ride for the past few years, this year I noticed that the fire effects did not seem as hot as they were in the past. It seemed like a certain pat of the backdrop that use to go on fire does not, or even a prop but I couldn't tell for sure.

Recently I noticed that there are no longer any flames coming from the right hand side (if facing forward towards the driver), of the tram (or at least on the couple of days I rode). The fire effects from the left hand side seem as they always have done however.

I dont remember that happening anymore either. They used to scare the crap outta me because they were so much closer and I was always afraid we were gonna burn! :D

I agree. It isn't as intense as it used to be.

I remember the days of the backlot tour being much hotter. I'm not saying it's not hot anymore, just not as extreme. Illuminations on the other hand, is still hot no matter where you're sitting. If the wind is blowing the right way, you can feel the heat really well.

Speaking of backlot tour, when did they stop going around the houses ( Golden Girls, etc )? It's been a while since my last trip, but I was so disappointed !

They took the houses out sometime in 2002 or right after. Not sure of the exact date, but they did it when the started construction for the new stunt show, or shortly before it started.

Tanker no longer slips and splits?

Guys,

We are just back from WDW and went on the much revised backlot tour.
One thing that we noticed was that the tanker in catastrophe canyon did not split and slide towards the audience while bursting into flames.
Please tell me that we did not imagine this from our previous visit in 2001.

First off, let me be the first to welcome you to the boards! As far as CC goes, you're not imagining it. The semi did slide towards the guests and have lots of fire coming from it. That's a shame that that effect was missing. I'm hoping this isn't something permanent as the fire was the reason the water comes rushing over you (to put it out).

Well, thats not exactly true. While the water did "put out the fire" In actualility the purpose of the water is really to continue the theme of the earthquake that has now caused a flash flood. Also the water is not neccessary to put the fire out. As they will and do go out on their own.

Well, you know sometimes certain parts of the ride can stop working but, the ride itself can go on. And so even if the flames aren't all on, the show goes on anyway.
