Castle Forecourt Stage Question

I just got back from WDW a few days ago...had an interesting observation when I was at the castle stage that I wanted to see if anyone had any more info about.

I know there have always been these towers on the sites of the stage (I think they have speakers in them), but they appeared to be shorter and more temporary than usual. Am I going crazy? Or are they doing some sort of work over there?

I also noticed that they replaced all of the stage lights on the front towers (that rise out of the booths on top of the pavilions) with LEDs. Was that recent or have I been missing that for a while? I'm a lighting designer, so that sort of stuff always interests me. Thanks!

The LED lighting is a few years old now.

The PA towers suffered issues last fall and were temporarily replaced. It looks like these are still the "temporary" ones wrapped in a scrim.

The originals were custom mounted on poles. IIRC the current ones are regular box speakers stacked.
