Castaway Cay, which Cabanas to book?

Looking for opinions on which are the best cabanas on the family beach!

Background: We’re a large group (11 adults, 8 kids ranging in age from 17 to 8 months) and booked in concierge rooms. Our trip is in February, so we can make our requests in October. We’re to be able to book 2 cabanas.

The big question is which end of the beach do we want to be on? Should we book the grand cabana and the one next to it (#20 and 21) or do we want something closer to the ship (something in the 2-10 range)? Our TA says it’s only a 5 min walk from the grand cabana, but we’ve got several small kids (ages are 17, 9, 9, 4, 4, 2, 1, 8 months) and they always slow things down. Plus the bigger kids will want to do the activities. Bike ride, snorkel, whatever else they need to do.

I read that they have golf carts available to help you get around if you need to. Has anyone done that? Could we ask for a golf cart to have a couple people go get food for the group or some of the group? Can you collect food for other people or does each person need to get their own?

I’m sure we’ll have more questions as things get closer.

Wow, this is a great post. I have never been in the family cabanas, so I can't offer any opinion on which end of the beach would be better for you.

But I do know that there was a golf cart at the Serenity Bay cabanas last time we were there in 2018. The cabana "attendant" used it to get check on people in the cabanas. He also let my father-in-law and his wife ride in the cart so they wouldn't have to walk the whole way. I don't know if the family beach attendant will transport people to get food, but you could certainly ask.

Can you collect food for other people or does each person need to get their own?

Considering that it's all-you-care-to-eat, I don't think anyone will tell you that you're taking too much food. The people in line behind you might get grumpy, but I think if you say you're getting food for the kids, the CMs won't give you any problems.

Thanks Chuck! It’s been so long since I’ve been there (20 years or so) that I don’t have a good sense of how big the island is or how far away everything will be. I’m sure no matter what we’ll have a good time.
Our original trip was supposed to be July 2020 to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday. It’s been moved twice now so we’re really hoping February will work out. Do you have any cruises on the books?

My family's frist DCL cruise was also 20 years ago (Christmas of 2001)!! Of course, we've been on about 14 more since then. Not that we have a problem. . .

Absolutely! I don't think I've ever been unhappy with my day on Castaway Cay.

We were booked for April of 2020. Cancelled. Rebooked for April 2021. Cancelled.

Trying again for April 2022. We're under 300 days now, and I think that one will actually sail!
