Hey Gang,

Was woundering if there are any cast members out there that can help me with a question. I wanted to know if the people that work in setting up and putting on the firework shows work for Disney or ar contracted out. I am currently a CM and want to explor getting into the pryo/show area around the property.

If anyone has any insite please let me know. I am willing to take what ever classes I may have to but I would realy like to get into work the the show/pyro area like Wishes, fantasmic or ROE. I am just trying to find out where to Start.

Any CM have any Ideas?

To answer your question it depends on how much you want to move into pyrotechnics. It would help if you've had some experience in this area or with, lighting, audio, etc. Anything in the "Stage Tech" side of things is good. If you do not have that experience, then you will not have very much luck getting in. The next step is to talk to one of the Entertainment Managers. Depending on what park you work, there are quite a few of them. You might also try going over to the "Main gate" building and visiting the Entertainment offices there. Tell them your a current CM and would like to know who to contact about getting into the dept.

I also recommend you chat with the pyro guys next time you see them around the park. Just be aware that you MUST not go anywhere near them while they are working. Try to catch them in the break rooms or in the tunnel etc. Just don't bug them while they are actually loading the product.

Hope this helps. To warn you, the last person I knew who made the jump into the Entertainment dept had to fight for about 7 months before they let him transfer.

Thanks for your input,

I do have some lighting knowledge from my stage crew days back in high school, and also when I did some A/V work but nothing professional. I am more than willing to do my time and pay my dues. Just need a place to start.

Thanks again for your input. Any other thoughts would be great.

As mentioned above by MKT, give boo52 a PM. He`s usually busy working on Wishes, but does drop in from time to time.

actually getting to the wishes launching spot isnt very hard. any guest can actually drive by it and you wouldnt pass any security check points. You might not know where it is unless you know what your looking for. Actually getting into the launching spot is probaly pretty hard just b/c the sheer fact that its almost alway closed unless there loading the mortars, and there is a large fence around the area.

I have driven around back a couple times because Beverly (I named my navigation) told me to. Maybe I can convince her to show me that way again so I can be a little more observant

Some kind of professional or at least training might assist. Now...I live in PA and fireworks are illegal here, but a friend of mine went to Phantom Fireworks over in Ohio and managed to get into a training program as to how to operate fireworks professionally. I believe that Phantom Fireworks have stores in Florida, you may want to check with them or some other high end fireworks retailer in the area and see if they offer any training courses or if they could direct you to a place that does.

Going in with some training is probably better than attempting with none.

yeah the rode is closed off during launching. I wish I could be back there during launching but i dont know if anybody is actually in the area. Its located right next to a fire station so in case anything goes wrong you got the fire trucks ready to act.

Actually, in the afternoon you can stand along the World Showcase promenade and watch while the Pyro techs load the seawall firing locations... One or two locations are no more than 30 feet away from the walkway. (The location between the Outpost and Germany is the first one that springs to mind...)

Those launch points aren't generally accessible to guests - they'd have to climb fences, wade through water and/or wrestle landscaping mounds. What she's referring to are the launch points (like Wishes behind the MK) that are reasonably accessible to lost, misdirected or nosey guests. If you climb the EPCOT lagoon fence, you're going to get caught - thus, it's restricted access based on the fence being there. Since the MK launch point can be driven to, parked by and walked up to - they would guard it with a physical human being - making it also restricted access.
