also, does anyone have any info on tour guides, such as, what it takes to become one, how much money they earn, etc? it's the newest of my three choices, and since it's not a very talked about job, i find it's a little difficult to find info on.
again, thanks for the info!!

Hey, I hate to break it to you, but unfortunatly, the college program doesn't really offer some of the roles you are interested in. Tour Guides work for Guest Relations, and this is an Advanced Internship, which you MUST be a college program alumni to apply for. Horticulture is also an advanced internship. While you can certainly work in restaurants, the title of 'chef' isn't really what you will be doing on the college program, rather the emphasis would be on serving guests, filling drink orders, cashiering, or hosting. You should really check out www.wdwcollegeprogram.com for details and official information. Also, CPs can take educational courses, but are not trained as managers during their college program. Mangement Internships are available, but are very competitive, and once again, I beleive you must be a college program alumni to apply. Please visit the official website for more info.

thanks for the info! i actually went to the site just now, and it looks like they offer a bit of what i'm looking for in the chef department. take a look:

Culinary Assistant Cook II:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in one of the full-service restaurants located in our parks and resorts featuring an á la carte or buffet menu. This role includes mixing, dicing, grillwork, sandwich and salad preparation and following basic recipes. Culinary education is preferred for most of these positions.

there's also another option for quick serivce - kitchen only. and of course, they have options for, like you said, servers. really my main goal would be culinary art, or something along the lines of baker. and i know that schooling, not the CP, would take care of that end of it for me.
as for the tour guide, thanks! i never really knew what department they were considered part of! plus i didn't know about the advanced intership thing! again, thanks for the info!!

Hey I always wondered myself how hard it was to drive onw of the monorails. It seems like it'd be a pretty fun job. Don't get me wrong, I love the Entertainment department but it'd be niec to see things from someone else's view point. How do you get such a job Fantasia?

hehe... it's a fun job alright... albeit a tad bit aggrivating sometimes.

It had always been my childhood dream to drive the Monorails... ever since I was like 6 and rode Monorail Green for the first time. So one day, I was bored and randomly thought, "Hey, I'm moving to Florida to work for Disney." So I picked up my stuff, drove 1,300 miles, and here I am. I went to the Casting Center (right across from Pleasure Island, 407-828-1000) and said, "Hey, I wanna drive the Monorails!" As it turned out, that particular day, they just happened to have an opening. So here I am, 1 year later, still havin a blast!

It's hard to say whether its easy or hard to get this job... we do have a high turnover rate... there are a lot of people who for whatever reason do not like it, or can't cut it... We get a lot of transfers in, as well... I guess it's just based on how many openings we have. Right now, I beleive we're in a hiring freeze, so all we're getting are CPs...

As for the job itself, unfortunetly, it's a little bit more than driving. We rotate between driving and the Platform, which is where one spends most of the day. Platforms really aren't that bad, except during a blow in when we're understaffed, or any MK exit.

MK exits are frustrating because you're trying to move all these masses of people... and they're not moving. Which is why you'll sometimes see frustrated cast members being not so Disney happy during those times. :)

I was a CM at Animal Kingdom. I was an Animal Presenter Advanced Intern. It was one of the best experiences of my life! I liked it a lot and met some really wonderful TV and got to experience a lot of things that I would not have been able to if I had not been an intern.

not when you're in a global entertainment...

IMO, for cast friendliness, MGM takes #3. MGM takes #1 for laid back though.

Epcot is #1 for friendly cast. The reason being, all of the bitter MK cast left when they got the chance due to entertainment going global... and where did they go to? the country-club (inside joke), MGM, as did the bitter Epcot cast. So the nice and friendly MGM and AK cast ended up @ Epcot and AK. So I left for the scheduling pool (Disney schedules me where they want, and I get no say). So now I'm mainly at Epcot w/ a random MK or MGM shift (I have yet to be scheduled @ AK.. I've picked up OT there many a time and I like that park a LOT).

I agree ;) hehe... I think one of the reasons is the international environment. I can´t speak for the cast in future world b/c I didn´t work there too much, but they were always nice to me.

When participating in the International Programs, you get a lot of trainning on how to deal with guests who are not from your country, and how not being offensive with things that you find normal in your culture. I think that´s why everybody smiles all the time there and jokes around a lot with the guests, because you are living all day with your coworkers and are used to be nice at all times... at least while you are on stage and your program lasts! haha;) :)

Thanks,

asics1cc,
If you can bring a car. Even though they do have busses to get you where you need to go I found that driving and car pooling with people that you work with to be really easy and a lot less time consuming. I hope that you get to live at Chattam, it is the newest complex and it is a lot of fun. I had a blast!

Hey asics1cc,

Where do you live in Michigan? and what University do you attend? I work at WDW in the summers and am one of MSU's campus reps. Disney is the best company to work for, however others will disagree with you. I thought that working their would ruin the magic, but it only makes it better cause now you can provide the magic for others. You will have a blast on the Spring program and you also have a good job location. Most CP's get "Quick Service Food and Beverage" for their location so you are fortunate. Well, I suggest the same as tmm7899, bring a car if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Other than that, hope you have a great time! Later.

I go to EMU,
Ok, one more quick question for tmm7899, and DisneyFanatic4. What would you say are the up and downs of each apartment complex? Why would you recommend one or the other?

asics1cc,
I lived at Chatham Square and I liked it a lot there because it was brand new and it was very clean when we got there. We were the first group into out apartment, we even had to unpack the dishes from the boxs. Vista Way is fun because the buildings are closer together and it is easier to get to know people and there is always a party of some sort to goto if that is your thing. Although Vista is much older and not as clean as chatham. Unfortunately for you, you do not get to pick the complex that you live at. Although when you are at check in get to know the people around you in line because chances are that you will be living with or close to them. If you need any other information I will be happy to help you out.
