Cast Member pins?

I know that cast members have to trade the free cast member ones, but can they wear their own personal pins and not trade them?

Not on the clock. If you are in a position that allows you to have a pin lanyard, you are not allowed to refuse a trade unless you have a green lanyard which signifies that you will only trade with children. Then you can refuse to trade with adults.

You are certainly allowed to wear your personal pins, but they are fair game to be traded, so that is a risk that you must be willing to take.

So I have no say in what I get to trade? Like, if the guest wants one of my pins they can give me a less valuable one for it?

Yes, because technically you are trading Disney's pins. They will provide them for you, so even if it is valuable it shouldn't matter because it doesn't really belong to you. That is why some cast members choose the green lanyards and only trade with children because they aren't concerned about perceived value.

I should do that then, because I would like to wear the ones I bought with my own money. I don't care about the free ones, those ones are the ones I should trade.

Wear the ones you bought with your own money on your day off. You will not be able to tell a child "No, that one is mine" when they want to trade with you.
