Jeff Bezos is loving this conversation. A bunch of non gajillionaires fighting over whether or not a daycare teacher should make enough money to provide for their family while he flies to space for the funsies.

He must have worked a gajillion times harder than every daycare teacher!

It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what your employer does.
You are paid what you are worth to your employer, if you feel they aren't paying you what you deserve then it is your responsibility to find an employer that does. That may mean changing careers, taking on a second job, going back to school, moving to an area with more job availability. It means taking responsibility for yourself and what you make for a living.
Where is it written that it has to be easy for you? And yes, if you can't afford to live on doing something you love then you should absolutely quit and find something that can pay your bills. You aren't a child, you are an adult right? Make an adult decision.
There are not enough jobs out there in the US that pay a living wage for everyone to have one. That's what you keep missing.

And again, since necessary jobs like grocery store employees, retail, hospitality, restaurants, daycare, and, in some places, EMTs and firefighters, do not make a living wage, are you advocating NO ONE work them? How does that work?

And are you doing everything possible in your power RIGHT NOW to solve every world problem?

All this hate on Bezos trip is just really ugly behavior. Wahhhhhhhh he has enough money to do things.... wahhhhh

Meanwhile Elon Musk sends his toy to space and all Elon did to make money was charge a commission on other people's work. But we don't talk about that in the 'burn the rich' memes of the week.

Then why do the same people want to make it even easier for immigration? If there isn't enough work here already?

They advocate that people working such low paging jobs may not have the ability to live the same lifestyle as others - So maybe they don't get a place of their own, or they can't afford the same things, or have to work more hours/jobs/etc.. and if they want more as their life goals change, there is a responsibility to face that new goals may require new efforts. Not the mindset that just "I am owed this...".

It's like the person who loves art or playing music... but has to face that maybe they can't live on their passion job alone and had to take another job as well, or do more to get by.

Nah just saying that hard work doesn't always pay off. Good luck does though!

I think the mindset of " I deserve a living wage" is the correct mindset.

We aren't talking about people who get out of college and think they're going to live off of artistically painted golf balls, or the panhandling 20something who told a friend "I'M not going to work for a living. That's what you're for, and then you give me money". [Yes, really she did. My friend was all " nope".].

We are talking about preschool teachers. Grocery store employees. Office cleaners. Front desk agents. SOMEONE has to do these jobs. Who do YOU think should do them?

There are some ethnic grocery stores in my area. Undocumented folks work in these locations that I know about. These are not paid a living wage.

And they should be. So should migratory the farm workers, the fast food employees and the restaurant dishwashers.

I mean, this partially is because of people believing the prosperity gospel above all else.

If that happens expect grocery prices to soar. Increased labor costs gets passed to you and me.

Funnily enough… i did 2 of those 4 jobs and my kid did one of the. We all lived and eventually took on new roles as our skillsets snd marketability grew.

how did we live? I had two jobs and lived with three other roommates. The other was while i still lived at home. My kid lived with her working boyfriend.

so who does those jobs? People who acknowledge the job can’t support a full independent lifestyle on its own.

The mindset of some of the younger generation in my area is different from when I grew up working multiple jobs in the beginning so I can save more and invest in the markets.

Funnily enough... the wages for these jobs have stayed flat while the rest of the economy is taking off. No idea how old you are but just because things worked out for you doesn't mean it's the same situation now.

Yes, wages have stayed flat but for me over the years, I brown bagged at work , drank the office coffee instead copying my fellow peers on their numerous daily Starbucks runs and daily $8 plus lunch at the cafe or daily eating out for lunch. Over the years that all adds up to thousands of dollars of savings. If one's wages stays flat, find ways to save money, pay down debt.. It is really not that difficult but it is an attitude adjustment change .

GDP as a country - what does that have to do with those jobs in particular? Have your office cleaning companies in your area suddenly boomed 20% recently? How about grocery stores? You see all them leading the market in your area? Is Telsa giving handouts to your local grocery store with every Model 3 sold?

Throwing around National GDP and then pointing at certain market segments is stupid. Not only does it fail to address that peter having success means nothing to paul... it is a measure of aggregate, not individual growth, so it can't be used to show growth in a segment.

This chart is about incomes vs national GDP measurement. It really has no applicability to this conversation.

Productivity is up. Pay is not. You say these daycare/grocery store/whatever jobs were always not meant to support one's life on their own. Turns out these jobs are paying less and less over time despite people working just as hard. And you're over here saying I'm "jealous" for pointing out that only certain people seem to truly be gaining from this increased productivity. Yeah, someone is robbing Peter to pay Paul alright and Paul is blasting off into space for fun.

That's all I gotta say about that.
