Cast Member Interview Process

Hello,

I've got a friend that is going to apply to be a cast member. Is there anything different about a castmember interview vs a normal job interview?

Regular interview checklist:

1. Nice Resume.
2. Nice clothes, better to wear a suit.
3. A professional and open attitude.
4. Arm yourself with knowledge of the company, it helps with conversation and sparks the interviewer's interest.

Now, are they looking for a serious interview, or should you show up in your best mousewear and let it be known that you're all about the magic? This is a tough one, but better to ask and tell than to pick the wrong approach. You only get one chance to make a good impression. I sure hope she gets the job.

I just did an interview with them and there were people in there with cut off jeans, mullets, and peircings all over the place. I don't understand some peoples behavior.

They want to see your knowledge of Disney and your excitement for the company as well. It isn't uncommon for them to ask about your favorite childhood Disney memory or attraction. Be sure to expand on it and show how much you rellay enjoy it....something very easy for all of us to do!

Google around and find info on "the Disney Look" -- it couldn't hurt to have already conformed to the requirements. Also, don't be surprised if there's another candidate in the interview with you. I've heard several people say that many interviews are conducted in "groups" of sorts to see how you react to others.

Location will be DWC Chicago

Hello,

In this case it is specific. The job would be at the new DWC Center in Chicago. That is the new DVC branch that is experimental. I guess the main question I was asking is if you should be dead serious like most interviews, or should you be an obvious disney freak if that is what you really are. Do they hire disney freaks? Or should that be toned down a bit. I want to encourage her, as she really does fit the part. But she has this idea that interviews are very much in the style of Office Space. Is this a standard corporate America interview, or is Disney much more special?

Ah, even more interesting.

WOw, this seems very interesting. I really wonder how they are going to handle the situation. I wonder how they will perform the Disney Traditions class I've been reading about. I also wonder what they plan to do for those they hire that have never visited WDW. I also wonder how the DWC remote location works into the parks and resorts business unit structure. Uh oh, that is my business side talking. I just hope that they make an environment that screams Disney Parks.

Well it is the South...

Yes and no. The social interaction is a Benefit of the group interview (usually two or three candidates) but it isn't the Reason. Usually, the main purpose is to save time.

A lot of Traditions is video-based, so it wouldn't be too hard to do a portable Traditions. It's also possible that Disney will fly the DWC new-hires to WDW for Traditions and training.

As far as the interview goes, I would definately suggest that she make a point about her love for Disney. However, I also wouldn't go over the top. Perhaps a Disney watch and/or earrings with a good Buisness Casual look. Here is a link to the Disney Look guidelines: http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/disneylook/disneylook.html
(it's from the college program website, but it isn't any different from the standard "Look")

Unfortunately, I can't comment too much on the interview process itself, since I never interviewed with Casting. I interviewed directly with my department. However, it was a fairly laid-back and friendly interview (in other words, not like Office Space).

I would wear a suit. One that is current in fashion-no light blue or dark brown polyesters:D .I would already conform to the Disney look before the interview. I would show some Disney spirit and maybe have a Disney tie(not too wild).I would do some research on Disney and know some basic info in the company such as
a-company president
b-some of the business units
c-know some insider terms like Guest,Cast Members,Service Recovery,etc.
d-If youre a Disney freek id let it be known.
e- Be cheerful, confident,outgoing, AND SMILE,SMILE,SMILE,SMILE.

Good luck:wave:
