I know about vacations being important, but I do believe that when the President orders the American flag at half mast (usually for death of a
president or congressman, or national tragedy), it is improper for Disney World to keep the flags high...

But that would ruin the illusion that you're not IN the real world for a while. That's why they don't lower flags, and that's why they don't report accidents to people who don't need to know about it. After 9/11, we got people who complained that we didn't have enough flags out, that we didn't keep them lowered long enough (we had them down for as long as Bush said we should) etc... But we also had people complain that we shouldn't acknowldge the attacks AT ALL, because they had come on vacation to get away from all of that. Personally, I thought that we handled the flags, the moment of silence, etc., pretty gracefully...
Also, like I mentioned somewhere else, people die EVERY DAY. And people die in WDW (this isn't an argument about being "declared" dead, btw). That's life. But it's a testament to how much WDCo. wants to protect the fantasy, and people's vacations, (and, yeah, their own image), that you almost never hear about it... I don't agree with everything WDCo. does, but I don't have a problem with the way they handle things like this...
