Ok, so I still firmly live in the "it's the little things" that make
Disney such a magical place.
Last night we went and picked up our merchandise at our resort that we had purchased on Friday.
My husband and I had spent a few minutes talking to one of the cast mates that worked in the United Kingdom. We talked about it being my birthday, about how much he enjoys working here, about sports and formula 1, etc.
Well, when I picked up our luggage this is what he had written and drawn on the back of my receipt...

How amazing is that!!!!! It just really made me think how many people he comes into contact with everyday, and he still takes time to do things like that.
Does anyone else have any other awesome stories to share like this from around WDW?

So far... This is the best cast member experience that we have ever had. Not to say that we have not had many special moments, we just didn't even know it had happened until 3 days later. It actually gave my wife goosebumps when we picked up the package and she saw the back side of the receipt.

She went to the concierge at the WL, and they were very excited about someone actually giving good feedback about a cast member interaction. She said that the cast member and his manager would both receive accommodating emails, and praise. She went on to say that very rarely does good feedback get passed along to management, usually it is just the negative and the complaints.

I think we should all let someone know when we receive "magic" treatment.

Nathan a cast member at PoTC took our picture in front of the mast head outside the ride and then asked if we were going to ride. We replied "yes" to which he said "follow me". He took us through the backstage area and we boarded a boat all to ourselves in which he proceeded to give us a personal tour of the ride with all sorts of information and background story. It was back in 2009 but I will never forget his name or the level of excellence he seemed committed to. If you happen to be on these boards Nathan...KUDOS and well done sir!

It's unbelievable how well the cast members at Disney perform from top to bottom and go the extra mile time and time again.

It certainly isn't motivated by money because they aren't paid a lot.

Disney has incredible management but it really is a testament to the people doing the jobs. They truly want to be there and that's the Disney difference.

This is why we keep going back.

I have wondered, since people I work with make fun of me for going so often, if I new a co-worker or some other person I knew was going, if I called ahead and explained the situation if they would give them a little extra attention. Just a thought.

When we were there last month there seemed to be many magical moments we experienced due to the consideration of the various CMs we were fortunate enough to encounter. The bus driver who called ahead to Hollywood Studios to hold a bus for us to get back to our hotel; the hostess at Boma who brought the chef out to us (without us asking!) to talk about a new soup they were trying for the first time that night (it's delish!); the CM in MK who noticed my daughter's birthday pin and gave us 6 fastpasses! Little gestures that were completely magical for us!

I know I've said this before on other threads but it always bears repeating....

If you are the recipient of some extra magic in WDW or feel that a CM has gone above and beyond for you or someone in your party, PLEASE bring it to the attention of one of the managers in their area. CMs are rewarded for their positive actions with certificates that are submitted and placed on their WDW record. This list is pulled when they are looking for promotions as well as other times during their career. Plus, it makes the CM feel awesome!

If you are the recipient of some magic the best thing to do is ask the CM or a CM in the same location (same location is key) if there is a manager (or coordinator) that they can speak to because you would like to recognize them officially for the extra effort. If by chance a manager or coordinator is not available, you can go to Guest Relations and relay the feedback that way. It does take quite a bit longer to get back to the CM if you go to GR but it will get to them eventually. Additionally, if you feel so inclined you can write a letter to the Guest Communication team either in e-mail of letter form and let them know what happened. When you write a positive letter, the whole letter is actually passed on to the leadership team in the area (generally the area manager) and is usually (depending on the area) printed out for the CM and given to them with one of the Guest Service Fanatic Card Certificates.

I have kept all of the Guest letters that I have accumulated throughout the years and really treasure them. They remind me why I work for Disney (because as you said, most of us don't do it for the money). We all do it for the magic...because we can make a change in a person's life, or, put a much needed smile on their face. Nothing makes me happier than to be called to a situation where I think I'm going to be yelled at, only to have the Guest turn around and tell me how wonderful one of my CMs has been to them. It makes us all feel good. And a little recognition goes a long way. :)

Great post! Love that story. Disney, despite it's problems or corporate issues, still does it right. CMs that I've talked to or interacted with have always been kind and more than willing to help.
