Cash for Tips

Hi,

its been like 12 years since we last visited and a lot has changed, including my reluctance to carry cash. I can’t remember how we previously paid for tips on past trips but I’m pretty sure I didn’t carry cash with me around the parks.

How does tipping work now? Can we just use our magic bands/apple watches and just add to the bill?

Just trying to work out how much if any cash to order to take with us.

Thanks

As always your server will bring you your bill at the end of your meal and there will be an option for tipping. On the receipts there is a varying range of tipping percentages and prices to let you know whats appropriate. Add your tip to the MB if you like. On our last trip we did have one server ( at 50s Prime Time ) ask us how we were going to leave our tip and she said she would prefer cash if we were to do it. The first time a Dis server ever stated it that way to us.

Just me but I usually question if someone wants a cash tip and if it's to avoid claiming to employer. Only other reason I know is immediate payment vs waiting for a paycheck.

Cash tips are what servers like. Tips that get added to the credit card and the server doesn't get the tips until paycheck day.
Yes, I figured the immediate cash in her pocket probably was what she wanted. This was after covid reopening and her as many others probably had bills to catch up on. We normally leave cash as well. Over the many trips weve taken, it was just different for a Disney server to mention it that way.

I have always left the meal tips in cash. For me this is not just at Disney thing. Even when we had Free Disney Dining trips. Plan to continue doing so in 47 days.
I worry about taking cash on vacation because I may lose it. 10 days and a TS daily the tips add up.

Very bold for server to ask for cash tips.

Disney adds tip automatically in some circumstances. Groups of six (I think) or more automatically get 18% added. Be sure you check the bill.

I thought Disney had announced that because of Covid, they were going cashless throughout the parks/resorts/restaurants. If that’s true you’ll have to charge tips using MB/CC/Debit/Gift Card.
