From a creative standpoint, I agree.

Actually it will also help on the economic side. Think about it. Does anyone really like an over-used brand? If people see too much Pixar they'll start noticing the regular formula and they'll get bored easily. In the public's mind they'll just think "I'll pass this one. The next one will be the same anyway..."

This is happening to Dreamworks (although they're still successful). With the debut of "Shark Tales" it seemed to be very similar to Shrek in they way it was created. Famous voices, medicore story with great jokes and a pop soundtrack. Box office sales showed signs of a only moderate success. By the time their next movie comes out it will all be the same recycled material. Right now Madagscar doesn't seem any different from the rest. Again, just my opinion...

I don't know... Madagascar looks a hell of a lot funnier than Shrek ever did.

And it's got David Schwimmer as a giraffe and Jada Pinkett Smith as a hippo! Who doesn't think that is hilarious casting?

It's one of the most anticipated films of 2005, and it's one of the few comics that have yet to recieve its own movie (well, they did do a F4 movie a while back, but it was really bad). I think it's going to very well (Daredevil didn't do too well because many weren't familiar with the character).

What about Pirated of the Carribean 2? Won't this new release mess with it's summer 2006 release? And now what does disney have to fill this summer hole?

Looks like these two aren't the only ones who are changing release dates....

DreamWorks Moves Shrek 3 to 2007
Source: DreamWorks Pictures
December 8, 2004

DreamWorks announced today that it has decided to move its release of Shrek 3 from November 2006 to May, 2007.

"We believe there are more than a half a dozen strong release windows available annually for our films," commented DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. "We look at each film very specifically to determine which of these release windows will best maximize its value in the marketplace based on a number of factors, including its story, the competitive landscape and the overall market potential."

Katzenberg added that "the sheer magnitude of the 'Shrek' franchise has led us to conclude that a May release date -- with a DVD release around the holiday season -- will enable us to best maximize performance and increase profitability, thereby generating enhanced asset value and better returns for our shareholders."

Columbia Pictures previously scheduled Spider-Man 3 for a May 4, 2007 release. Shrek 2 was released on May 19 of this year, and the third film will likely receive a similar date, such as the 11th or 18th of the month.

Based on this change, DreamWorks Animation will release Madagascar on May 27th, 2005, Wallace & Gromit: Tale of the Were Rabbit on October 7th, 2005, Over the Hedge on May 19th, 2006, Flushed Away in the fall of 2006, and then Shrek 3 in May of 2007.

I haven't heard of any of these movies except for Madagascar!

Now I have to wait for Shrek too? Bummer... :(

Don't forget. Sony will release Robots in March. Ice Age 2 will come in 2006.

If you ask me, the computer animation novelty will wear off rather quickly.

It's their TRUE Nemo rip-off!
HAHA! And a ripoff of the bathrooms at Disneyland! Those cheap little...I'm going to give them a piece of my mind. First they try to convince us that "Shrek" wasn't a Disney movie, and now this! What is the world coming to?

And speaking of ripoffs, isn't Toy Story 3 and Finding Nemo 2 going to be spectacular? I mean, these will be from the studio that produced such gems and Cinderella II and Hunchback of Notre Dame II! How could it miss?

P.S. All of the above was sarcasm. None of it was to be taken literally. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
