Hi all

Entering the magical place July 24-Aug 3 party of 7.
Me 27, husband 34, our son 3.5 at the time, my brother 23 his gf 21 , my mum 56 and dad 60 (it's a celebration trip for dad's 60th)

We booked cbr as there was free quick service dining on here when we booked and some people in our group wanted a less disney themed hotel (grrrrr I'd be super happy over at AOL theme me up ha!)

I keep seeing loads of mixed reviews about CBR and as people are more likely to complain than give positive feedback just wanted tips or thoughts on the resort from anyone who has recently been

Thanks

I'd ask for Aruba or Jamaica, as they are just across the bridge from Old Port Royale and not preferred.

Personally, if they assign you a room in Trinidad South at check in, I would ask to be moved, as I find it too far from everything.

I second Jamaica or Aruba. (Ask to be "near the bridge")

Trinidad South is where the pirate rooms are, so the OP won't be assigned there.

The buses are fine, they just make stops at each "island". It is a little annoying at night if you are tired and want to back to the room but I think it's better than at some resorts like the All Stars where you are dropped off at the one stop and then have to walk a long way to your room.

Agree about making a request for a room in one of the buildings just across the bridge for quicker access to Port Royale. It is a spreadout resort (but getting that room as close as you can to Port Royale, without having to pay extra for a preferred room, makes things easier) but it's gorgeous and we think the main pool is one of the best on property. The rooms were all recently refurbished, the food court was good, each 'island' has it's own quiet pool and laundry room and there's a playground too, on the walkway over the bridge. We had a great time here. The buses can get busy and each island has it's own stop so if you're last to be picked up and the bus is full...They do send another bus asap in these instances but it would be frustrating to be left waiting. I believe the islands across the bridge are the first to pick up which also makes them a good option. We were worried about the negative reviews but are glad we stuck with our choice-enjoy!!

Love CBR!
Recent refurb has all queen size beauty rest mattresses, so comfy.
Jamaica or Aruba would be my choice r/t proximity to OPR. The pool is the best of the mods as well. Also a very quiet peaceful resort, beautifully themed.
The rooms are larger than the values (except AoA family suites) and have plenty of outlets for your phones, tablets, etc.
I know you're going to fall in love!

We've stayed a ton of times here. I agree 100% that Jamaica or Aruba is the way to go. Seems to be centrally located between everything. One cool thing too is going to the smaller pools in the afternoon/evening. They are less busy and alot of fun. Also check out the hammocks. Ahhhh!! :)

Overall great choice. My wife and I visit less now that we are DVC, and we always wish Disney would do something so we coudl use our points there without getting ripped off. Regardless, we even talk about just paying out of pocket we like it so much!

We stayed here on our first trip and we loved it. We stayed in Trinidad South (Pirate Room) so it was far from Port Royale, but there is an internal Resort Bus that runs. For your group I would definitely look at Jamaica or Aruba so you are close to the main areas and the main pool. The benefit for us of Trinidad South was that it is the last stop on the way out to the parks which was nice (though with lots of people you may need to stand). We thought it was a great resort and really enjoyed it and I know you and your family will have a blast, but definitely go for the two areas mentioned above.

We'll be staying at CBR in November, and I'll be following the same advice (to request Aruba or Jamaica). Our reason has more to do with having easier access to the main pool than anything else (my children are already talking about it -- they cannot wait to swim there!), since we eat breakfast in our room and don't have any other reason to visit Old Port Royale. Also, while I've read mixed reviews about the bus service (as you'd find for any resort), it seems like service there has improved in recent years/months, as the reviews overall keep getting more and more positive. As for the large number of stops, I can think of worse things than riding around on an air-conditioned Disney bus, with my arm around one of my children or holding my husband's hand, listening to music and the chatter of neighbors as someone else drives me and my family to/from our vacation resort.

I've also read that due to the un-popularity of the far-flung rooms in Trinidad South (the pirate rooms), guests are sometimes told at check-in that they've received a "free upgrade" to a "more expensive room" that happens to be in Trinidad South, not realizing that this "upgrade" means they're going to be stuck with double beds instead of queen-size, and a very remote location. As such, beware of accepting any offered "upgrades" unless you're sure you know what you're getting, and are happy with it. :)

I was at the CBR in February and was assigned Aruba:
  1. Aruba is the second stop coming back from the park, a big deal because the parks do not provide enough closing bus service to the CBR IMO
  2. Our room was on the lake, a 10 minute walk to OPR.
  3. Because of the spread out nature of CBR, it did not seem overly crowded, except on the buses. Even during peak dining times at OPR, there were seldom long lines to order or check out.
  4. For first timers at the CBR, it's important to note that you check in at one location, then need to take an internal bus to your room.

Agree. Under no circumstance accept a free upgrade to Trinidad South. IMO, Trinidad South should be leveled and two buildings in each remaining Village should be converted to Pirate rooms. Trin South is just so far away, and you gotta cross over/under a pretty busy roadway to get to OPR.
