carousel of progress

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I heard theywere going to make it spin backwards and re-theme it as a time machine. This would also ease the pressure on the main bearing as it would now be turning the other way

That would actually be cool, but the song wouldn't work anymore..

I don't want them to replace it because it's a classic. But if they have to I hope they do it with something good. If you think about it, Tomorrowland has always been changing.
If you had wings became Dreamflight which became Buzz. Sure, we were disappointed but we moved on because Buzz was good.
Mission to Mars became AE. Sure, we were disappointed we moved on because AE was good.
Magic Carpet Around the World became America The Beautiful which became Timekeeper. Timekeeper was good.
Wedway Peoplemover's Commuter Computer became the TTA grand circle tour.
None of us are going to boycott DisneyWorld because of changes.
Tomorrowland, by it's name, has to evolve. Otherwise, it becomes Yesterday's View of What Tomorrow Should Be Land.

I agree, more so than any other part of the Magic Kingdom, tomorrowland has to change more, to stay ahead of things. Carousel of progress is a classic but to me not a classic that I will miss that much as long as the replacement is a better than the original. What will give Disney a better ROI, an updated carousel or a new attraction bassed on a popular movie? I dont know to many people who put the carousel on the must see list except the hard core disney fans I know.

Makes me think of the Circuit City "EASY" button. After the fiascoes of the IMAGINATION and STITCH attractions, I bet that all Imagineers wish they had a "MAKE IT BETTER" button!

Oy, Let's cool it. CoP is one of my favorites too, but the facts remain the space is valuable and it's becoming very outdated. I doubt any of you will pull a complete boycott on Disney because they removed 1 attraction. Besides, it will probally be something really great. And if you NEED to see it when it's gone, go to cali, I'm sure they're gonna try very hard to replace innoventions with it at DL.

I wouldn't boycott Disney..I just would never step foot in Tomorrowland..

Yes, I understand, that Tomorrowland is about the future and the idea of the future is constantly changing. But Pixar animated films aren't about the future.

That's your perogative. I don't agree, but we won't debate. You'd miss Tomorrowland eventually. Walt always said he hated tomorrowland because it always required changing. Well...the same is still true. Things have to change.

You just change it to "It's a great big beautiful yesterday"
Now is the best time of your life might work.

Although CoP is all about evolving. They could change all the stages around, as that is the only difference between the World Fair and WDW on CoP. At the fair, the theatres moved clockwise, here they move counterclockwise, so it'd be making it 100% accurate.

but that means the CoP is currently rotating backwards. If we move clockwise we go ahead or progress.

So in essence it would be doing the ride a bit of good be reworking the stages and theaters to have the show presented in a clockwise presentation, but thats quite minor to the average guest.

Tomorrowland is no longer about the future. Tomorrowland now is the future that never was and never will be. A scientific and fictional integrated community with apprecation given to the visionaries of yesteryear. How could the CoP NOT fit that?

No doubt the CoP needs sprucing up in both mechanics and show presentation/script...but the oldest ride in all of WDW, and a pop culture icon and historic legacy from both new york and california deserves a bit more of attention being it is the only ride in all of WDW that somehow was built by Walt Disney himself.

There is the galaxy palace theater and entire skyway area that can be used to house attractions. The CoP could easily stay in tomorrowland, go back to Disneyland or to a museum. But it is too historic of a ride and too unique to simply be destoryed for the sake of an attraction that can easily be built else where "the blessing of size/land".

Besides the CoP was NEVER supposed to end with a future scene. It has always ended in the present day. The only exception is the epcot backdrop to promote the idea in the 1967 ending which was 99% the 1964 ending...and in 1994 the ending was supposed to be Christmas 1999 or 2000.

While I can't say the current version is my favorite. I find it quite dry and irritating...there are many ways that ride can still thrive and live on if money and time can be put into it. Right now money is being spent elsewhere for obvious reasons.

It was quite a compromise in 1994 for the New Tomorrowland, but to see it become a pixarland and fantasyland east sorta puts a knot in my stomach.

The rides previously mentioned were from Disney of the past. AE etc all great concepts from yesteryear.Putting monsters that hide in our closets in the lunar community of tomorrow is quite rediculous IMO.
