1.) COP-
Reason for updating the animatronics- maintenance, although there hasn't been any approval or discussion about this. Same goes with restoring the show back to the NYWF's show (that was an idea thrown out there) but to my knowledge nothing is on COP's plate.

2.) Timekeeper- doesn't get the maintenance it needs and doesn't pull in enough numbers to justify staffing the attraction so I'd expect that it's going to be shut down. Same sort of situtation with WOL (run it just enough to get in those seasonal hours and don't expect it to come back).

"

This not a good sign when they are worrying about maintenance costs for animation. That last ride they worried about animation costs before they fixed it was JIYI. And they fixed that good!

Maybe they will replace the AA's with cardboard cutouts or just static props and they can make it just a walk around show. That would really reduce maintenance costs.

LOL. Yeah, then it could just become a COP character meet-n-greet... Really save money!

While they are at it, they could just drain Small World and let you walk through. And maybe just close the Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion altogether -- just hand out DVDs of the movies. You know, all that money on maintenance could just be saved.

And as for Hall of Presidents... boy howdy, what a maintenance cost there! You know, that could become still-life, you know kind of like the Smithsonian and Lincoln Memorial...

Ahh, the ways that they could save money! :hammer:

Here is an idea for savingg money on AA attractions:
Maybe they could make it Carousel of Progress with the Presidents and just combine the two attractions and cut out some presidents. All the presidents could celebrate Christmas together at the end.

Could someone refresh my memory. Is TK the attraction with the Robot host (I think with Robin Williams voice)?
Yes, the 360º show features Robin Williams as the Timekeeper with his 'side-kick' Nine-Eye. They go through time with Joules Verne seeing both the past and the future.

I'm sorry to bring this topic up again, but what is the big deal about the Clockwise vs. CC direction? To me, whether I move to the left or the right, it is the same show. Can someone tell me the importance of this?

I didn't even know they planned to close COP, I knew they closed it, but just cause the season is over, and Stitch will be opening soon. I didn't know they planned to close it for good. Well this sounds like good news, for COP. Not so sure about TK..I love that attraction cause it is with Robin Williams. It's a true classic.

Here's hoping COP gets a good refurbishment. I certainly don't care which way it turns. And I don't think there's so much wrong with the current final scene, (other than the gap from the 40s.)
Are there six theaters? If so, would it be possible to load/unload in the same one and build a fifth set to fill the gap using the other one?
Of course, if they want to bring back the NYWF original, that would be better than letting the attraction die.
As to Timekeeper. I hope it stays open. Robin Williams' spiel is fantastic!

With all honesty it doesn't make a difference which way your rotate in the theater. After all it is the same show like "askmike1" said. What I was saying was that if Disney honestly, and I mean honestly wanted to truly show the original 1964 version, then they would have to spend a ton of money to bring in a new theater to make it rotate clockwise like the 1964 theater did. There is really no need for it. As long as the current theater can be mechanicly maintained up to par, and the interior can fixed than I have no prob with the way the show is presented in a counter clockwise motion as it is today.

As for restoring the final scene back to Christmas 1960, of course I would like to see it, and I'm sure there were others out there who would like to see it. As for a finale yes it was quite inspirational/hopeful. Ending in the turbulent 60s with the dawn of modern technology I guess is of course a neat way to see the show end, let alone allow the audience to see how Walt created the original carousel of progress.

Unless the show was moved to Epcot and was allowed to add more theaters making a longer show, than I feel ending it 1960 would do it justice. Tomorrowland no longer bothers about showcasing our future. After all we will see a carousel of progress, it will just be 60 years of progress, not to 2004 and beyond progress.

This would also save Disney money on updating the ending every so many years, I mean ti costs money to redoe the set, redoe the AA's fashion, and hairstyles, and hire a new cast, and that gap between 1940 and say 2010 or 2020 will just keep on getting bigger and bigger.

It would be so easy and far less expensive if Disney would just restore the first three acts to their original state from 1964, bring back the original ending, let alone once again use the 1964 master audio track, or whatever they want to do... bring in a new cast to read from a slightly edited 1964 script, add new AA's, lighting, sound, and theater decor, and bringing back the kaleidophonic screens. Yes it will all cost money, but it would be cheaper than taking it apart, bringing it to Epcot, etc, etc, etc.

As long as they can give us a decent show with true Disney quality and character, possibly a sponsor to help fund the CoP, and a more advertised, and better building facade, than I don't see why the CoP couln't become a better sucess.

Jean Shepherd was also noted as narrator of "A Christmas Story."

I want a Red Ryder carbine action air rifle with a compass on the stock... oh and this thing that tells time.

You'll shoot your eye out kid!

Heh. First time I rode Horizons, my thought was "Wow, this is like a really big CoP"

Thanks Grizz!

Again, this is not my update. This comes from a Cast Member over at Intercot.

But yes, good news. :D

I don't want to get my hopes up, but this sounds like great news! I went on CoP this timeyear for the first time!Really enjoyed it and so, while I don't mind it not changing and staying open, an update sounds good! As for TK, this trip is the only trip I can remember seeing it. I thought it was great (apart from the standing up was so great for my Gran :S) and I sure hope it will stay open. As for stitch, not going to get to see that til' 2006 anyway! But thanks for such a great update!

Rex Allen: Both the 1964 and 1967 version of the carousel of progress host/Father. Did preshow narration with kaleidophonic screen "....progress is the sound of a motor, hum of a turbine,...."

Andrew Duggan: Both the 1975 and 1985 version of the carousel of progress during "Now is the Time". Was asked to come back and reread a slightly altered script when General Electric dropped sporship in 1985, and New Years Eve 1980 replaced New Years Eve 1970.

Jean Shepherd: The current 1994 30th anniversary tribute to the carousel of progress.

Rex Allen: The current 1994 version with the voice of Grandpa, heard most prominent in the finale of the current show.

Rex Allen died in 1999.

Andrew Duggan died in 1988.

Jean Shepherd died in 1999.
