Not sure if anyone else has heard this or any other issues surrounding Carousel of Progress. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if this is true and does spell the end for the show

I wouldn't put much stock into secondhand info supposedly from a CM reported by an anonymous meme account.

Vague statements like a Carousel of Progress replacement is being "talked about currently among management" could just be this account's way of trying to guess the next attraction closure to gain attention and clout, but without any real source.

I'll get heat over this, but I wouldn't mind if they brought Walt's Animatronic (pending how well they do that) as a host for a new version of the Carousel of Progress. With a City of Tomorrow/Progress City/Epcot finale.
ngl i’m kind of expecting that announcement at D23 next month…not the removal of Carousel per se, but the integration of the Walt animatronic/show somewhere at WDW.

I don't trust the source, but COP is something back in mind I thought has the potential to be gone after what happened at D23 last year.

The only thing is I really Disney would get a rid of COP at this time due to how progress is for Cars Lands and Villains Land. What I'm getting at I think there is enough down at MK already.

Taking down Carousel of Progress simultaneously with Big Thunder and the river leaves Magic Kingdom with about 27 attractions.

Right now Animal Kingdom has eight. Ten with the trails (but if you can those then MK's number goes up for stuff like the pirate adventures).

I think they would be willing to take down more in Magic Kingdom. It's not like they're going to dip ticket prices or anything that negatively affects them.

No heat from me! Keep Jean Shepard doing the intro, with a soundalike introducing Walt.,Walt does an in-depth introduction to CoP, with a Walt finale after a modern final scene…I could live with that 10000%

We know it has to be on their minds somewhat because one of the top "50 things they'll do for the 50th anniversary" rumors that happened before everything changed in the world was that CoP would get a decent remodel/refresh. And persoanlly, I don't think that the new paint, Taylor Swift hair piece on the animatronic, and new seats really accounted for all they wanted to do to that.

Wait .. so what's the issue? Also... Not much confidence in the veracity of this claim coming from someone named, Cynical Disney.
The beginning of the thread was

I was just informed by someone who works at MK that 6 of the 9 motors on COP are running, with one of them breaking last week. These motors allow the ride to spin and according to my source, they are on the last one they can run before the ride stops spinning entirely.

And if that motor breaks, and the whole ride has to be rebuilt, it could be too expensive for the numbers of guests who visit the show.

the more i think about this…integrating Walt as the narrator of the show..i kind of love it. COP is arguably one of the most visibly outdated attractions in WDW. this would feel like a proper use of a Walt figure and really drive home some of his core beliefs when it came to progress and the future.

Frontline CMs are not reliable sources on whether a ride is going to permanently close and certainly not secondhand info attributed to some random CM either. Doesn't matter what they claim the issue is.

I don't put any value in rumors but over the years I've learned nothing at Dis is ever considered safe and untouchable. I'm visiting Cindys Wishing Well and dropping my coins in asking for COP to be hands off.

Yep. It’s not optimal, but the fourth act has an inherently problem given the time jumps and the need to constantly update it. Putting a believable Walt animatronic where he is the central narrator while the original 1960’s version of the family goes about its day in the backdrop would work. He likely also spoke extensively about the attraction so cobbling together a coherent script from his recorded interviews shouldn’t be too heavy a lift.
