Carousel of Progress COP

A great ride/show that's withstood the test of time...so far. This is a bit of a rant, and a question. It's my understanding that the first scenes are to remain the same (since it's in the past) and the final scene represents the future? correct? Every time I get to the final "future" scene I can't help think of the 80's. It screams the 80's. Everything from the architecture of the "house" what the people are wearing, the hairstyles, the appliances in the kitchen. In fact, the kitchen ALWAYS reminds me of the kitchen scene in Back To The Future II lol. Everything...Except the flat screen tv they put in there. Does this bother anyone else or is it just me? I'm not hating on it, I do like it tho that's probably mainly because of nostalgia. I'm not sure if it would be better that they keep it the way it is now, or run they risk of having another ride ruined. Any other thoughts?

This is my DH #1 choice in rides with the Hall of Presidnets being #2!! I read him your rant and he does agree with the 80's feel he said to leave as is. He feels it would change the feel of the ride to change it to Todays furture.

Probably would be best to leave as is. But seriously, I have newer appliances in the kitchen that came with my apt. Maybe they could just put different clothes on the AA's, put some newer, more futuristic appliances in and leave it at that. They couldn't ruin that, right.....?

I say move it to EC for a progress themed pavilion!

That's not a bad idea. Picture it in a redone Wonders of life. They could build sections inside the building where you could walk through and see what life was like during the different eras covered in the ride, and maybe what the future could hold. lots of educational ideas and things they could do with it.

Yea I think COP could compliment EC theme very nicely. IMO it’s a win win situation, WOL gets rethemed and used, and it opens up valuable real-estate in TL.

Yes the scenes bother me. I dont know how updating the final scenes and giving the AA's a new set of clothes would ruin the ride if the script and voices are kept the same

The attraction definatley needs some TLC in 2008 we got stuck in that first part where the curtain opens and it shows the COP logo, it kepts freezing and repeating itself, then the lights would come on, go off, the speil would repeat again, his happened for what seemed 10 minutes :brick:

That's odd, because the final scene was updated in the 90's to reflect a 90's future.

Anyway, from what I've heard, COP is supposed to represent progress in the 20th century, not necessarily beyond...and it's so difficult to keep up with future technology now as it's changing so quickly.

The Carousel's final scene has not been updated since 1993. I believe that one of two things need to be done with it:

A. Since the original show showed the progression of technology over a period of 6 decades in 20-year intervals, it should be rehabbed so that the opening scene takes place in the 1950s and the final scene takes place in the 2010s, with the middle two scenes taking place in the '70s and the '90s. Once every decade, the show would need to be rehabbed, discarding the "oldest" scene and creating a new final scene set in the near future. It is safe to say that this will never happen.

B. Since the show is already called "Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress", and the first 3 scenes are pretty much identical to the 1964 show (minus the plugs for GE, of course) why not just rehab the final scene back to the 1964 version as well and turn the whole thing into a museum piece? That's pretty much all it is anyway. This would also turn CoP into the kind of attraction TDO likes best (next to a closed one): the "timeless" kind that only ever needs basic maintenance.

The show as presently constituted really bugs me because you start out taking 20-year jumps through time, from the 1900s to the '20s to the '40s, then you take a huge 50-year jump to a sort of "late-90s-that-never-were".

seriously, that's all they would need to do and it would be a huge plus. Like u said don't change the script or voice! They could do it in a day or two, and probably wouldn't cost much at all. why don't they stay on top of things like this? They don't even need to design some kind of future appliance...just get some current ones from GE and it will be more believable that what's in there now.

No, no, no. The virtual reality game, voice commands and computer make it instantly futuristic, right? :D

Yeah, a bit of an update is needed in that last scene. I like all of the others, and I'm constantly noticing new things in the first three scenes, it's just the last one that's a bit off.

I say leave it as it is, just rehab it a little every once in a while. It's a true classic and they already messed with POC to much. I love the classics - it's what I grew up on so any changes to the end I don't really care, but leave the beginning alone

Exactly they could probably do the whole update to that final scene for like 5,000, as far as the appliances go they could just use props unless they want them to have a working function and its not like the AA's need top notch Calvin Klein clothing either.

Throw some of those Disney Crocs on them! haha just kidding hate Crocs:ROFLOL:

that's present time..the last scene is supposed to depict the future...

Yeah in the future people instead are going to wear their jeans inside out (just like Marty McFly did in Back To The Future Part II :) ).

No but seriously I think it should be left as the classic it is. I took some of my family here (first timers) and in the final scene I will never forget when the dad was talking to the oven my cousin says "we have that?" So I guess some people believe the technology to be very updated. That's just my opinion however.

What is "TDO"?
