Carnival-style games at DW

What are your thoughts on carnival-style games at Disney World - maybe in Dinoland at AK? Lots of people like to play the games, but don't necessarily enjoy the "fair" atmosphere of short-term carnivals. Not to mention the perception that most (if not all) games are rigged at these events. Disney could make the games fair and fun with its cast members.

I just don’t think they’d fit well at Disney World.

I absolutely hate them wherever and whenever I see them. They just look so tacky and out of place. If I want to go to a county fair then I will go to a county fair. When I'm at Disneyworld I want to enjoy exclusively unique events and not rigged games to suck even MORE money out of my pocket than Disney already does. I just think carnival games are absolutely shameless but are also a shame.

And yet no one is having a problem with the ones at Pixar Pier..
It's probably because at Pixar, guests seem to understand the story. In AK no one even tries to understand the connection and the reason why a carnival would be there. No matter how often it is explained. Could they have come up with something better? I guess, but, I have no idea what. The guys that owned the little store/gas out in the middle of nowhere found a way to be entrepreneurs and use the Dino discovery to their advantage.

3 - 2 - 1.... time for the constant chirp in to tell us how Disney cut the budget and that was the cheapest thing they could put there. (and, of course, the always popular.. it was supposed to be temporary) So what? It still fits into a believable story if people would choose to accept that story. Instead it is more fun to not try to understand it and just complain. I realize that I am lacking in that type of imagination which is the primary reason why I have never attempted to be an imagineer, so perhaps this is a good time to suggest what would have fit into a depicted barren strip of land that had just discovered a hidden treasure of Dinosaur bones.

It is much easier, I think, to do something relevant if they found those bones during a subway dig in NYC.

I dont necessarily see them as rigged games, but I do not/ have never liked the Dinoland area... back story or not. I just think a better use for the property in an animal themed park could have been used. There are areas that using these games would have been better suited.
There are a couple of things that have been placed around the Boardwalk which fits in well with the atmosphere of the area. The Frontierland shooting gallery in MK has taken many quarters from me over the years, which I willingly hand over for shooting time. Once upon a time when they were working, I turned over pennies for the train station penny arcade machines.

never been to a carnival so can't say if they are good or bad.

Are people having fun?
Are carnival games not allowed anywhere else?

The only other thing I think they could have done is having you Disney related prizes similar to the ones that they had done at DCA....

Rather than the Ho-Hum generic bland prizes..

“A word may be said in regard to the concept and conduct of Disneyland’s operational tone. Although various sections will have the fun and flavor of a carnival or amusement park, there will be none of the ‘pitches,’ game wheels, sharp practices, and devices designed to milk the visitor’s pocketbook.” – Walt Disney

Didn’t Florida ban carnival type ticket/prize games? I thought that is why the arcades and Pizza Planet (before it closed) got rid of those type games. I know that Dinoland still has them, but you get a prize every time you play now, before that wasn’t the case.

Carnival games are a great addition at any Six Flags park, not so much for Disney.

My DS played a carnival type game on the Boardwalk a few years ago. He won a football with the Washington Redskins logo on it. I reminded him that “Dad” is half Native American and he was one quarter. He threw the football into Crescent Lake. I bought him a real one when we got home.

lol, I hang out on the Dis also, it's funny how different folks have different strokes. over there someone is asking if there are carnival games at Disney springs and how they would love them, with the majority saying they are pretty cool.

One mans garbage.... is another man's treasure

That's absolutely not an excuse to litter. You should have made him go in after it and then had him find an actual garbage can.

I guess they're a """good""" money gimmick for families with wee kids (me and my sis unfortunately were a couple of those anklebiters that were enamored by those back in the day). I will agree it's a very cheap and sleazy tactic to have carnival games in a Disney park though; especially when the prizes are nothing but cheap Chinese garbage that's constructed out of nasty itchy materials and can fall apart very easily. I'm glad now that I have the wisdom to save my money on actual Disney Parks merch than a few rounds at a crappy, rigged carnival game.

It was pretty bad that Universal CityWalk had those water shooter games with Sonic the Hedgehog dolls as prizes back in the mid-2000s, right as my sister and I were really into the Sonic X TV show and some of the games lol.

I think my parents wasted about 40 dollars worth in games just to win us a Sonic or Shadow doll. I feel real bad about it now, thinking back on the fact that I made my dad waste his money on such garbage...

I still have them though. I don't wanna get rid of 'em cause i think they're collectors items
