Carmageddon!! July 15-17

As a resident of Orange County, who is quite happy to rarely, if ever, go north of the 91 Riverside Freeway (AKA "The Orange Curtain") into the land of Los Angeles, I have been quite amused by the increasing media attention being given to Carmageddon.

The radio and TV stations out of LA are growing increasingly shrill by the day about this terrifying event. Something tells me that it's going to be just like Disneyland during the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics; the media had screamed bloody murder about crowds and horrific traffic for so long that everyone stayed huddled in their homes and usually busy places like Disneyland or the beaches were totally empty for the entire two weeks of the Olympics. Silly.

However, I do appreciate that we have all agreed to call it Carmageddon, after a brief battle over the earlier phrasing of Autopacalypse.

As for me? I'm happy to just stay here in Paradise that weekend, also called Orange County.

Heading into Hell, Diverting to Heaven!!!

One of my wive's best friends is having her 30th birthday party on saturday the 16th at a restaurant just two blocks from where the 405 and 10 freeway connect in Santa Monica (ground zero where the freeway is being closed).

She's expecting that we'll be able to drive from Palm Springs right to the restaurant in a few hours.
Not gonna happen. It'll be pure gridlock!!
I've tried to explain, but she doesn't want to hear it.
And I'm not in the mood for a massive fight.

So I'm gonna get in the car, drive towards that nightmare, knowing full well we won't make it, and wait for her to finally give up.
At which time I'm turning and heading for the Disneyland Resort.
We'll grab a cheap room on Harbor Blvd. and get some drinks at Downtown Disney.

Always nice to make lemonade from lemons.:sohappy:

Sounds like a good plan, Jeff!

TP2000, I think you might still see some traffic patterns change. I know that my friends and I plan to head south instead of north due to carmageddon. We'll be hanging in the OC with you!

Wow!! What a non-event that was.
Everybody was talking about how they've never seen LA traffic so light.
Obviously all the warnings worked.

Which sucks.........because I was really looking forward to hanging out around DLR.
Now I have to wait all the way until this saturday night (July 23) to visit.

Can't wait to tip some drinks back at Trader Sam's for the 1st time!!!!:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:
