Car Seats

We are scheduled to go to Disney in May which Im really excited about since I haven't been there since 95. I have done so much preparing and it can't come soon enough. Thanks to everyone for all the great information posted on this site. Definetly the best site on the web. Anyway my questions are: What do we do with young children as far as car seats on Disney transportation or even transportation from the airport? I have searched high and low but can not find out any info. Also how strict are they with checking age at the gate for children? My son will just turn 3 the week before we go and Im not sure if I should buy him the hopper pass or not. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm...I know for sure there are no carseats needed on Disney transportation, it's impossible. You can hold onto the kids when on buses, monorail and trams, and that's about it. We had to bring the carseats because we rented a vehicle, but didn't use them any other time. (From the airport to the car rental place we rode on a small bus.)

They are not very strict about checking ages. My youngest was 2 1/2 when we first went and they asked her age at the gate, that was it.

If you rent a car you want to check and see if the rent or give you car seats. The rental fee might make it worth the hassle to bring your own. If you use a limo service, like Tiffany Towncar, they supply them at no cost. We've never taken a shuttle bus from the airport so I can't help you with the particulars there.

In Florida, car seats,or even seat belts, are not required on public transportation.

No one at the gate has ever questioned my children's ages when I have hedged, but they are smaller than average. I especially hate being charged extra to have my daughter in the room! It's not like she takes up more space or uses more towels now that she's 18 (or even as young as 15, in some hotels!) I don't think they check unless it looks too obvious...don't try to pass a developing little girl, or 5 foot boy, off as an 8 year old. I suspect (but am really guessing!) that the developmental variations might be why guests are charged full price at 9, rather than 12....some 12 year olds (especially girls) look 18, some look 8! ;)

We just got back from our 6th trip to WDW, but our first with a child. (8 month old baby) We did not rent a car and took Mears motor coach. We took our infant car seat with us and checked it on the plane. (much smaller then one for a almost 3 year old. ) I wish we hadn't brought our seat because it counted as one of our luggage and therefor we had to cram all of our things and the baby's into less bags then normal. Mears does not charge for children under 4 years old, so that was helpful. We stayed at Poly and the monorail was more convenent then the buses with the stroller.

I reccomend bringing a copy of the birth certificate with you, that way you know you won't have any problems.

On the trip our daughter had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics she was on. Ploy was really good about helping us and the first aid both at MK. They recomended us to a walk in medical clinic in Kissimie that had complementary transportation. The van even came with a car seat. It was door to door transportation from the hotel and even brought us to the pharmacy for the prescription. (the doctor visist however cost 113!)

Just make sure your son is not nearby when someone asks how old he is - "Daddy, I'm not 2, I'm 3 now!!"

The child will be 3 a week before...they don't want to pay for a ticket if possible, so would NOT want anyone to see a birth certificate. ;)

My niece spent some time at that clinic! She had a reaction to a bug or spider bite, then had an even worse reaction to the antibiotic! She spent all of 3 days of a week trip at the parks...fortunately, we got to go to MK together her first day here!

My boys are quite small, on one trip to WDW they were 2years 11 months and 4years one month I put the two of them in the stroller and didn't buy either of them a ticket nobody asked how old they where, just commented on how cute they looked.
I used to take one car seat and one booster cushion (for my older Boy) with me and hire one seat it was never a problem.

Thank you, Beauty! I think yours is the definitive answer on the age question. Tommyboy, I would say, "Go for it!!" :)
