Mine's made from some bubble gum, duct tape, and a piece of string.

I'll have to remember that.

I tend to use monofilament because it slides across surfaces better so if anything gets in the way I can just give it some slack to keep it from adding tension to whatever it's pulling and hindering the mobility, but the problem is if it's thicker monofilament it doesn't always tie as well as I'd like and if running for an extended period of time it can come undone and the animatronic will go to pieces.
