Captain EO preshow stage?

does anyone know what the stage in the front of the Captain EO/Magic Eye (former Captain Eo) was used for? It just has a random podium and it sits in complete darkness

If I recall correctly the podium did have the Imagination Institute logo on it during the HISTA era as a CM would greet the guests to the institute explaining to move as close to the doors and so on. After which they would present the "True Colors" Preshow....After a while they then stopped using the podium and the CM that was at the front handing out the glasses would then let the preshow run..

And waaaaay back if I'm correct, the "stage" was used to keep people back from the screen for Makin Memories, which was a single front projection movie screen.
